Looking forward : One Project - Different Stakeholders


Change initiatives can only be successful in the long run if the Stakeholders are really on board, truly
adopt the change, and ensure, each in their own way, that the desired outcomes are achieved. Time for
a quick preview of some essential aspects.
Change in Process, Technology or Organization cannot be implemented without a true change in the
mind and behavior of people involved or impacted by the change. True adoption by all actors is key.
In our next Newsletter, we will go more in detail of several Stakeholder related
matters that contribute to this adoption. Firstly, projects involve a wide variety
of people and bodies. We will thus make a differentiation between the various
Stakeholder categories (sponsor, teams, managers, internal and external
customers).

With this knowledge in mind, we will see how the project performance can be
positively influenced by balancing the stakeholders wishes, performance and satisfaction. To do so,
different aspects of Stakeholder Management will be addressed:

General Interests of the different Stakeholder groups


Individual Interests in the Stakeholder groups
Stakeholder Assessment vs the Change Management Climate
Stakeholders Wants and Needs (SWANS), vs the Organizations Wants and Needs from
Stakeholders (OWANS)
Crisis Management vs Stakeholder Management vs Stakeholder Engagement.
Project Managers & Change Managers: practice what you preach?

Note that Stakeholder Management is essential in the larger process, but one should also keep in mind
that the overall aim of Transformation Projects remains the achievement of the defined outcome(s).
This desired/defined outcome should therefore always be kept in mind when planning, managing and
thriving the Change - also from a Stakeholder Management perspective.
By shedding sufficient light on the above dimensions, we will help however to create a thorough
understanding of the integrated picture, to allow you to find the right balance, and put adoption in
motion, while staying focused on the projects objectives.
