List three real-life examples of information that you suspect

is pseudoscience. Examples could come from web sites

advertising particular products, news/magazine articles,
social media postings, pop-up ads, or SPAM emails.
1. The idea of channeling the dead and being able to
communicate with them is an example of
pseudoscience (TV show Long Island Medium that
comes on TLC). The claim of channeling the dead is
falsifiable. There is no proof that the person is actually
speaking to the dead. They could be just making the
whole thing up. The claims are not based on peer
review research. The same findings are not replicated
anywhere; however, many different people claim they
can channel the dead. Channeling the dead is
indifferent to criteria of valid evidence, appeals more to
emotion, and appeals to the ancient human habit of
magical thinking.
2. End of the world phenomena in 2012 is an example of
pseudoscience. This is falsifiable and has proven to be a
false claim. These claims were not based on peer
review research and could not be replicated. End of the
world phenomena in 2012 relies heavily on
anachronistic thinking, appeals to the ancient human
habit of magical thinking, and argues from alleged
strange events and suspect claims.
3. Hypnosis is an example of pseudoscience. This is
falsifiable. Claims are not based on peer review
research. The same findings cannot be replicated.
Hypnosis can appeal to the ancient human habit of
magical thinking, makes extraordinary claims and
advances fantastic theories that contradict what is
know about nature, and indifferent to criteria of valid
evidence.
