will you use to document
student learning during
this lesson?
What summative
evidence will you collect,
either during this lesson
or in upcoming lessons?

Step-by-Step Plan
(What exactly do you plan to
do in teaching this lesson? Be
thorough. Act as if you

Formative: I will have them take turns reading a page for me while following along with a
finger. Then I will ask them to tell me the sequence of events without looking at the book.
If time permits, I will ask how the story connects to them personally (i.e. what do you see
in the sky, what do you do when it storms/how do you know its storming, or what do see
in the night sky, etc.).
Summative: Data I can collect is how well their fluency is during guided reading by
giving them running records. By giving this, I can see if they get better or worse over the
span of a few weeks.
