Scholarship Details 2015-2016

Eligibility
Scholarships are for the 2015-2016 academic year. Applicants must be current students residing in
the towns covered by Bonny Eagle. Award money can be used for tuition, books, and other educationrelated expenses only. Recipients must provide documentation verifying successful completion of the first
semester and registration for the second semester to obtain their scholarship awards. Withdrawal from
school will nullify the scholarship; monies will not be applied toward previous or future studies.
Scholarship funds may only be used for the academic year for which they were awarded. Scholarships are
non-renewable.
Recipients are strongly encouraged to attend the Kiwanis Scholarship Awards Banquet held
in their honor. The Banquet will be held at 6:30 PM on June 8, 2016 at the Kiwanis Clubhouse in
Standish. Following their first semester at an institution of higher learning, recipients are
encouraged to provide a 10-15 minute presentation for the club at a regular meeting of their choice.

Overview of Awards
For the 2015-2016 academic year, the Kiwanis Club of Standish will award scholarships for the
following amounts and categories. Scholarships will be selected by a committee of Kiwanis members
based on the application forms. Applicants should read the application carefully and tell us about
yourself, family and goals. The decision of the Kiwanis selection committee is final and no further
information will be provided.
Guy Wescott Award - $1000 This award will go to a graduate who plans to attend a one or two
year program at a technical school or community college. The student must have an overall average
of C or better (GPA 2.0) and have some vocational training in high school (please list in Section C
under courses).

Rutledge Morton Award - $1000 This award will go to a graduate who plans to attend a 4year
school to major in a science or mathematics related field. The student must have made the honor
roll for the first two trimesters of the 2015-2016 academic year.

Wesley Dolloff Award - $1000 This award will go to a graduate who plans to attend an institute of
higher learning (either one/two year or 4 year). The student must have been a member of Key Club
for a minimum of the last two years. The student must demonstrate that she/he has had outstanding
community service involvement during high school.

Russell Jenkins Award - $1000 This award will go to any graduate who plans to attend an
institute of higher learning in a 4yr program.

Dan Weston Award - $1000 This award will go to a graduate who plans to attend a one/two year
program at a technical school or community college. The student must demonstrate that she/he has
had outstanding community service involvement during high school. The student must have some
vocational training in high school (please list in Section C under courses).

Walter Hill Community Service Award - $1000 This award will go to a Bonny Eagle High
School graduate/applicant from those towns who plans to attend an institute of higher learning
(either one/two year or 4 year). The student must demonstrate that she/he has had outstanding

community service involvement during high school. The student must have made the honor roll for
the first two trimesters of the 2015-2016 academic year.
Deadline
Completed applications must be mailed to the Kiwanis Club of Standish at the address below and
received no later than April 4, 2016.

Notification and Awarding
Recipients will be announced in mid-May Honors program and will be advised via phone and mail
using the information provided on the application form. Failure to provide accurate information or to fulfill
any requirement could result in the forfeit of this scholarship. Awarding of the scholarship will be on
June 8, 2016 at the Kiwanis Scholarship Awards Banquet.

Award History
Since 2005 The Kiwanis Club of Standish has continued to make changes to our scholarship
program. Private schools were added in 2007 and in 2008 anyone residing in our area became eligible. We
went from four to six scholarships. Guy Wescott was a lifetime member of the Kiwanis Club of Standish.
Wescott left an endowment to the club for use as scholarships. Since then, the Kiwanis Club of Standish
has divided the award into various scholarships. These awards honor Guy Wescott, Russell Jenkins,
Rutledge Morton and Wesley Dolloff, all deceased club members who made great contributions to our
community. Dan Weston was a Kiwanis member for a short time, but he was devoted to his family and
Kiwanis. In 2011 we changed name of Bonny Eagle Community Service to honor Walter Hill who passed
away to recognize his long service to the club and communities.
