Most people seem to worry about getting old and I really dont understand why. Of course, when I
was young I couldnt imagine being old. I remember as a teenager thinking that thirty was old and I
also remember when I turned forty, thinking that the world was coming to an end. But in fact, as
Ive gotten older Ive realized that there are many advantages. For example, I never have to stand
up on the bus anymore. If theres no room, somebody always stands up and offers me their seat, and
in the supermarket people are always helping me with my shopping bags. At first, I was rather
offended by such behavior, but then I realized that people were just being polite and that, in fact, I
should take it as a compliment. To be honest, sometimes I deliberately exaggerate my age! You
know, walk more slowly or groan a bit. I know that sounds bad, but Ive always been lazy and its
too easy to take advantage.

However, there are some things that annoy me about getting older. Why is it Im not supposed
to like modern music? And whats wrong with an old man playing computer games? Sometimes
when I go shopping and buy a CD or a game, I have to pretend its for my grandchildren. I
recently bought the new Snow Patrol album, and the store assistant asked me if I was sure it
was what my grandson wanted. When I told her it was for me, she looked quite surprised!
