Background- For as long as human civilizations have existed education has been a vital
part of society.
A. Education has developed significantly throughout time, and the cultural/
educational changes are evident.
1. While education is a positive foundation of everything in the world, it has
not gone without discrimination or inequality.
2. America's education system does not rank extremely high in terms of
performance, yet it has certainly developed an accepting and warm culture.
B. Reform has constantly been essential in developing new, effective methods of
schooling.
1. France implemented a system that revolved around decreasing stress for
students.
2. A second example of reforming education, Finland gives students choice
and allows them the ability to individualize their education.
II. THESIS: ?American education is neither inferior nor superior to that of foreign nations
as while some countries surpass us in educational efficiency, America is far advanced in
terms of equality and other cultural facets.
III. One catalyst for the strong educational culture in America is the reform that sprouted
from specific cases of disagreement.
A. A common issue that has been mostly resolved in the American schooling system
is discrimnation.
1. A monumental case in education history is "Brown vs. Board of
Education" in which a man fought against race discrimination in education.
2. While resolved in America, countries such as Afghanistan are still struck
with discrimination.
B. A strong culture in America is also built upon the flexibility and open nature of
the schooling.

1. Education is free in the U.S. providing everyone an opportunity.


2. In addition the United States is dedicated to a trustworthy and consistent
teaching system.
IV. While America is advanced in terms of their cultural development, the educational
aspect is still lacking in terms of credibility, and performance.
A. The methods of teaching and examining kids knowledge are corrupt and
ineffective.
1. Exams are flawed and test students' memorization not intelligence.
2. Teachers credibility can easily be taken into question as the system for
reward is based on tenure not performance.
B. America has a relatively low dropout rate which can relate to the strong culture,
however the students' and teachers' performance is trailing,
1. America's emphasis on the college path and the importance of education
result in low dropout rates and high rates of bachelor degrees.
2. Teachers in America do not typically work in an environment as
welcoming as one in the top performing countries.
V. The American way of living is fully and wholly centered around college schooling, and
while different the influence can be seen abroad.
A. The American system places strong emphasis on the college path that should
effectively lead to a stable life.
1. The college atmosphere created in America is truly superior to any foreign
experience
2. Due to the fact that education is so valued, the tuition for college is
absurdly high.
B. Our strong and wholesome cultural experience in school has shown up in foreign
nations.

1. American Overseas Schools are institutions abroad completely modeled


around American schooling.
2. While America's system has shown it's influence abroad, it is evident that
some foreign nations are sticking by their own morals.
