What does Ducks Unlimited Do in Montana?

Montana!
The name inspires images of
snow-capped peaks, green mountain
valleys and endless prairies.
Indeed, Big Sky Country
boasts an incredible diversity of
landforms and wildlife habitats.
This is especially true of Montanas
wetland and grassland resources.

From glacial headwater sources, to

its mighty rivers, to unique pothole
country of the northeastern plains,
Montanas wetlands and grasslands
are the lifeblood of nearly 900
wildlife species.
Within the lower 48 states,
Montana ranks third in duck
production behind North and

South Dakota. The conservation

of both wetlands and associated
habitats that support waterfowl
are of continent-wide importance.
Throughout Montana, DU focuses
its resources on conservation efforts
that have regional and continental
impacts on waterfowl populations.

Description: The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised
of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, its a melting pot
where animals from every environment live togethera place where no matter what you are,
from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie officer
Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a
police force of big, tough animals isnt so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the
opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick
Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery.

Nates Lady Rangers lose a close one

Kemmerer Head Basketball Coach Nate Reinhardt
and his Lady Rangers (featured in Wednesdays Buzz)
lost their opening round game at the Wyoming 2A State
Basketball Tournament being played in Casper, falling to
Pine Bluffs 50-46. One thing about it, Coach Reinhardt
isnt shy about letting them shoot the long bomb, as the
Lady Rangers let fly on 22 attempts, making eight of
them. Kemmerer was in loser-out action with Niobrara
County at 10:30 this morning.

Mom, can I give that left-over piece of steak to
Rover? the son asked.

I wouldnt do that, the mother replied, its been
in the fridge too long and might make Rover sick.
Okay,
mom,
the
son
replied.
So
whatcha gonna do with it, throw it away?
Well, the mother thought for a moment, Ill
probably heat it up and give it to your father for supper.

Two ladies were discussing the upcoming dance at
the country club. Were supposed to wear something
that matches our husbands hair, so Im wearing black,
said Mrs. Smith.

Oh my, said Mrs. Jones, Id better not go.

Teacher: Daniel, Ive had to send you to the
principal every day this week. What do you have to say
for yourself?

Daniel: Im glad its Friday!

I think the only reason my husband likes to go
fishing so much is that its the only time he hears
someone tell him, Wow, thats a big one!

DU strives to use the latest technology, not only to

identify high priority landscapes in which to work, but
also to deliver on-the-ground wetland conservation.
For over 79 years, DU has been the leader in wetland
conservation, most notably through wetland protection,
restoration and enhancement projects.

DU works closely with private landowners across
the state. Ranchers and DU have two very important
things in common.they both need grass and water
on the landscape. Many of DUs programs work well
with the ranching community and fit right in with
their needs. DU has also been at the fore front on
winter cereal grain technology. Research has shown
that nesting waterfowl can be successful in the spring
nesting period by selecting nest sites in winter wheat.

To date, DU has restored, enhanced and protected
over 94,277 acres and offered Technical Assistance on
an additional 69,611 acres right here in Montana. DU
has completed 692 projects and spent over $24.7 million
in the state.
Phillips County, Montana has the distinction of
having more dollars spent and more projects completed
than any other single county in the United States.
In Valley County alone, DU has delivered
$2,209,991 worth of projects that have impacted nearly
8,637 acres. In Montana, Ducks Unlimited invests $3
for every $1 that is raised locally.
There are currently 35 active DU chapters in
Montana and in 2015 those chapters raised over
$812,000 for DUs conservation mission. There are over
500 chapter volunteers who help Montana DU with
its fundraising efforts. Without those volunteers the
dollars that Montana DU raises would not be possible.
Your local Missouri/Milk River chapter of Ducks
Unlimited will be holding its annual fund raising banquet
on Saturday March 12 at 5:30 P.M. at the Cottonwood
Inn. Early Bird tickets are available through Monday,
March 7th at D&G Sports & Western or Valley Bank.
After March 7, please contact Ken Jansa at 2282031. For more information about Ducks Unlimited,
