Frank, Anne. Anne Frank: the Diary of a Young Girl. Trans. B.M. Mooyaart. New York:
Bantam, 1993.
The diary of Anne Frank is basically a little girls diary that she wrote during World War 2. It is
about her struggles of being stuck in a room with her family while German soldiers were looking
for Jewish people like her and her family. She spent the last years of her life there but neither she
nor her family gave up. They had to be found before they would give up because they got taken
away. This is a very reliable source because it was written by the girl who experience these tragic
events first handed. This is her diary so she writes exactly how she feels and everything that is
happening because it is her personal diary. I can use this book as an example of perseverance in a
huge way because I want to talk about World War II in part of my paper and how thats a big type
of perseverance and having the fear of dying and not giving up. This is a strong example of this,
which is the strength of this source. There really are no weaknesses about this source except for
the fact that it has been translated from its original language and some of the meaning could have
gotten lost or was not translated as she intended. I think this source could stand alone because it
is a strong evidence of perseverance, but it is not an argument. Perseverance is a underlining
theme in the book but she is not writing this to show her perseverance so I guess that could be a
weakness. It is not an argumentative source.
Perseverance. Perseverance. The Irish Penny Journal 1.4 (1840): 3232. Web. Feb. 29,
2016.
This journal is useful to my paper because it talks about perseverance in general. I found this
journal on the Jstor database. The Irish Penny Journal is claimed to be a more substantial
magazine from the 1800s. The timing of this journal is irrelevant because perseverance is
timeless. All throughout time perseverance does not change. The only way it may change is the
way it is executed. The Irish Penny Journal focuses a little more on Irish literature and folklore
which is fine because perseverance is the same all over the world. The journal gives advice on
perseverance and daily life. Dont do something too quickly without thinking about it. It also has
stories relating to the lesson taught in the journal. The strengths of this journal is the fact that it
explains my topic in general. It creates a basis that I can build on to being my paper and talk
about what perseverance is in the most basic way, which is exactly how I intend to use it. The
weakness of this journal is that it is so basic. I cannot use it throughout my paper, I can only use
it in the beginning to lay down a basis I need to find other articles that build on it to use in the
more descriptive parts of my paper. This paper although would not stand up to a strong critical
evaluation because of what I said before it is just a basis for my paper. It will not make my paper.
SCUDERI, ROYALE. "6 Types of Motivation Explained." Lifehack RSS. 2005. Web. 1 Mar.
2016.
This website article is about the different types of things and emotions that can influence your
motivation. In this website I chose they chose six types of motivation to explain and list out as
the types of motivation. Incentive which is basically what does it mean for you and what you will
get out of it. Fear which means being influenced by an emotion that is fear. Being so scared that
you do anything to survive would be a good example of that. Achievement, the websites refers to
it as the drive for competency. Growth which is how it will make you grow and affect you.
Power which is what power it can bring you. Social, meaning motivation by social factors like
the website puts it. Those are all 6 of the types of motivation listed in the article. The weakness
of this website is it is not detailed enough for my paper. To be able to use this source I need to
pair it with another source like possibly my first one just to prove the fact that all of the ones
listed on the website can fit under intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Thats most likely how I am
going to use it. I might look into more sources and find a better one with more information to
back up my first source. I like that the information given is more reader friendly. If I needed
someone to go back to this source to understand what I was trying to say when I referred it they
would be able to understand it better because of the article being so reader friendly. I also like
that this source is a website. I do not want all my sources to be academic journals. I want some
real people opinions and explanations which is what this article is providing me with.
West, Sara, and Donald Uhlenberg. Measuring Motivation. Theory Into Practice 9.1 (1970):
4755. Web. 3 Mar. 2016.
I found this article my searching in the JSTOR database. I typed in types of motivation and I
got this article about the amount of motivation one can use. This article makes a lot of sense for
my paper because with the examples I use some of the example/ people are fighting harder for
what they believe in or for what they are trying to accomplish like people fighting for abortion vs
Anne Frank. Anne Frank is fighting with everything she has to be able to live another day and
not get caught. People fighting for abortions are not fight as hard as she was because their lives
are not in danger. This source ties into my two other sources about motivation. I will use this
source to explain the levels of motivation being used in all of my examples. I also can use this
source in my factual part of my paper, also in my opinion part to back up my opinion and what I
believe about motivation. The strength of this article is the length of because it assures me that I
will have a lot of information I can use and comb through, the other strength is the fact that it is
reliable since it is an academic journal and I found it on JSTOR. I know for sure I can trust the
information given unlike my website source that I cannot use as a concreate factual source,
because I need to conceder it as more of an argumentative or opinion source.
