Another consideration is the shrinkage of foam concrete.

Normally, concrete will contract

after attaining its maximum temperature due to heat of hydration (Scott M. Tarr 2008).
The loss of moisture during hydration and the change in temperature causes a change in
volume, which may lead to cracking before subjected to any kind of loading. Concrete
made with smaller size aggregate shrinks more than concrete made with bigger size
aggregate (Gambhir 2014). Foam concrete is a mixture of cement, foam and fine
aggregates. Foam concrete have a greater drying shrinkage due to the absence of coarse
aggregates. it is observed that foam concrete can shrink 10 times more than normal
weight concrete (Valore 1954; Jones et al. 2003).
E. K. Kunhanandan Nambiar et al. experimented the Shrinkage behavior of foam
concrete is based on five percentage of foam volume 10%, 20%. 30%. 40%. 50%. He
concluded that the increase in water absorption of foam concrete having the lowest foam
volume is caused by the presence of cement paste. As a result, the shrinkage behavior of
foam concrete reduces with an increase in foam volume.

precast and cast in place applications. One of its product, AFT-500 foam agent being used
in foamed concrete is used as cast in place for applications where lightweight and high
integrity is needed. Such applications are roofing, wall and floor panels, construction
bricks and blocks. In wall panel pouring, Foamed concrete with density ranging between
40-85 pcf are poured between the two sheeting creating a wall panel. According to AFP.
Foamed concrete provides low density concrete with effective sound and temperature
barriers, excellent adhesion and durability.
