Introduction
A cloud application is a program that functions in the cloud with some characteristics of a
desktop application and a web. A desktop application occupies entirely on a single device at
the users location whilst a web app is stored entirely on a remote server and is delivered over
the internet through a browser interface.
A browser interface is a method of interacting with an application by a remote device
presented within a web browser. This is alternative to providing controls by a separate
application with a dedicated graphical user interface (GUI). Browser Interface have become
common for devices that have their own network interface such as a printer.

Cloud application do not consume hefty amounts of storage space in the users
communication device and if the user has a fast internet connection, an efficient cloud
application can offer the interaction of a desktop application together with the portability of a
web application. Cloud application unlike web applications can be used offline even when
there is no wireless access. In addition, cloud applications can offer functions even when there
is no internet connection presented for long periods.
Examples of one of the Cloud Applications would be Trello.
Trello is a task management application that gives a visual overview of what is being worked
on and who is working on it. It used the Kanban system which was developed in Toyota as a
system to keep production levels high and maintain flexibility and is best represented as a
whiteboard filled with post-it notes as each post-it represents different tasks involved in the
project. Trello is a system of boards, lists and cards which creates a system that allows
individuals or teams to track a project and collaborate or contribute where they can be most
useful or where it is most needed.

The Importance of Cloud Application

Cloud-based services have become so common that, for many organizations, it is difficult to
imagine using applications and technology infrastructure components without the cloud.
Cloud application enables data to be more mobile and accessible as data is the content in the
business world. With data, decisions are made, sent, received and stored. Cloud computing
increases efficiency that enables companies to reduce capital costs and increase business
flexibility. With cloud computing services, energy savings can be achieved through the
deployment of cloud aware hardware and data center solutions. In addition companies can
consume resources on demand and services can be provisioned quickly and hence, the server

utilization rates can go higher due to the scale and elasticity of cloud services. Cloud also
enables rapid communication across the globe at unprecedented levels of security. Connecting
wirelessly to the cloud through mobiles, tablets and other devices gives access to any stored
data that is no longer restricted to a single desktop and businesses are now able to stay online
all the time. In this way, important files and other documents are accessible anywhere
remotely, and with a permanent level of security.

Advantages of Cloud Application

Disaster Recovery: It is highly recommended for businesses to have an emergency backup
plan ready in case of an emergency. Cloud storage can be used as a backup plan by
businesses by providing a second copy of important files. These files are stored at a remote
location and can only be accessed through an internet connection.
Security: Storing confidential or sensitive information in the cloud is often more secure than
storing it locally, especially for businesses. With online storage services, data is encrypted

both during transmission and while at rest it ensures no unauthorized users can access the
files.
Automation: The biggest issue most consumers and businesses have with backing up is
follow through. It is simply just does not get done. Online storage services make the tedious
process of backing up easy to accomplish through automation. Simply selecting what and
when to back up, and the service does the rest.
Accessibility: From tablets to smartphones, netbooks to desktops, devices are used on a daily
basis than ever before. Toggling files between these devices can be complicated. Not so with
online storage services. However as long as there is internet connection, accessing the account
from using a mobile browser or your work computer is also available.
Syncing: Syncing ensures that the files are automatically updated across all of the devices.
This way, the latest version of a file that is saved on the desktop is available on the
smartphone
Sharing: Sharing a single photo or an entire folder with hundreds of documents, online
storage services allows it easier to share files with just a few clicks
Cost Savings: Businesses and organizations can often reduce annual operating costs by using
cloud storage. Cloud storage costs about 3 cents per gigabyte to store data internally. Users
can see additional cost savings because it does not require internal power to store information
remotely.

Disadvantages of Cloud Application

Downtime: As cloud service providers take care of a number of clients each day, they can
become overwhelmed and may even have technical outages. This can lead to business being
temporarily suspended. Additionally, if the internet connection is offline, they will not be able
to access any of their applications, server or data from the cloud.
Usability: Be careful when using drag/drop to move a document into the cloud storage folder.
This will permanently move your document from its original folder to the cloud storage
location. Do a copy and paste instead of drag/drop if you want to retain the documents
original location in addition to moving a copy onto the cloud storage folder.

Bandwidth: Several cloud storage services have a specific bandwidth allowance. If an

organization surpasses the given allowance, the additional charges could be significant.
However, some providers allow unlimited bandwidth. This is a factor that companies should
consider when looking at a cloud storage provider.

Guide in Using Cloud Application ( Trello )

One of the example of an online and cloud application is Trello. Trello is an online application
that helps people to coordinate and organize their works and daily life activities, be it a
business project or casual gathering with friends. Trello allows user to do planning of what
they are going to do, it may be a personal activity or group activities.

To use this online application, users must first sign up on the website (www.Trello.com).
After signing up for an account, users will be directed to Home Page where there are Starred
Boards. Board is the main project of what is going to be done. It is used to manage a project,
there are lists and cards that can be used to help in managing, organizing, and tracking the
progress of the project.

User may start to create a New Board by clicking the + button located at the top right hand
side. Then choose which kind of board they would like to create and name it. There are
default Board, Personal Team, and Business Team.
Personal Team is a group of boards and people, users may invite their friends and family
members into the team to discuss about the project. While Business Team is also a group of

boards and people where users can invite their friends and family members into the team, but
with more security, administrative powers, and superpowers.
After creating a board or team, users may set the board or team from Private to Public or
Team Visible.

The board on the picture shown below is PIS.

List resembles the To Do List, where users can list down what needs to be done and store
ideas. It also allows users to set due date to remind the members of the team the deadline of
this project.

Cards are the fundamental part of the board. It is used to write down any ideas and things that
needs to be done. Users may add as many cards to the board as they want as there are no
limitation to it.

There are four main section of a card:

1. Card Description
The Card Description is used to add any details or descriptions about the card, click
Edit the description located at the top left side of the card.
2. Comments
Users may also add any comments to the cards, used by the members to discuss about
the project.
3. Activity
Any activities done by the team members will also be shown in the activity feed. The
team member may mention each other on the comments to get alerts from their
discussions.
4. Add

This section of the card allow users to add more tools to the cards. There are add
Board Members, Labels, Checklists, Due Date, and Attachments.
Add Board Members is used to add members into the team so the team can
divide tasks to the members and keep them in the loop. This will enables the
team members to be informed of each phase of the project. To add a member,
user will need to open the side bar menu located on their right hand side of the
board, and choose Add Members. Then insert the team members Trello

account name, or their email addresses if they dont have any Trello accounts.
Add Labels is used to filter and visualize the datas based on colours. Labels

will be used as keywords or tagged search items.

Add Checklists is used to add subtasks to the cards.
Add a Due Date is used to add a deadline of when this project must be
finished. When users set a due date to a card, Trello will send the users a
notification 24 hours prior to the deadline. This notification will appear on the
users mobile phone, email, and on Trello itself so users will always be
reminded of their tasks. Users may also turn off the notifications if they wanted

to.
Add Attachments is used to upload any documents or files from the computer
or cloud storages. Trello is integrated with some cloud storages like Google
Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and Box. So users may upload any files that they
want from any devices other than their personal computer which made
everything easier.

The cards may also be moved to any other boards and copied. The members of the team may
even subscribe to the cards so they will receive any notifications related to the cards they have
subscribed. Any cards that are done may also be archived, and the archived cards may be
retrieved back some times in the future if needed.

Trello itself has some other features that users may use to help them in customizing their
workflows. For instance, the Power-Ups.

User may find this feature in the Side Bar menu, located on the right hand side of the board.
The Power-Ups enable users to add different elements to their cards. It consist of a Calendar,
Card Aging, and Voting.

1. Calendar is used to show the cards with deadlines in weekly or monthly format. So the
users will know which cards must be completed based on their deadlines.
2. Card Aging enables the cards that have no activities to appear more transparent in the
Regular mode, or crack and teared in the Pirate mode. While if some times in the
future, there happens to be any activities in the cards, the age of the cards will appear
new again.

3. Voting enables the team members to do voting on the cards.

Search in Trello is used to find something quickly on the board. Users may find this Search
bar on the top left hand side.

Trello also allows users to get more creative with their boards looks. Users can customize the
colours of their boards background. To do this, user may open the side bar on their board,
which is located on the right hand side and choose Change Background. Then choose the
colours of their choice.

While with Trello Gold or Trello Business Class, which enable users to add more exciting
features to their boards for example customizing their boards background by uploading their
personal image and made Trello even more attractive with their personal touch. Trello Gold
will cost you $5 on a monthly basis, or at $45 annually.

Trello also comes in Mobile Application, so users may access to Trello anywhere, anytime,
and get their tasks on track.References
