Lesson:

Daily Stations
Grade: First

Total Time: 1 hour

Objective: Student will complete four stations in a timely manner by following directions.
Student will recognize letter and say letter sound.

Station 1
CCSS:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.1.B Recognize that spoken words are represented in
written language by specific sequences of letters.
Objective: The student will sound out word and understand that each letter has a sound

that goes together into a word.


Directions: The student will be given a word with the letter a in it. The teacher will model
how to sound of the word. The student will repeat after the teacher. The student will point
to each letter and repeat the sound of the letter. Then put the sounds together to create the
word.

Station 2
CCSS:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.1 Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic


features of print.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.1a Follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and page
by page.

Objective: The student will use his finger to follow along while the teacher reads the story
aloud.
Direction: The student will pick a good from his book bin. The teacher will read aloud while
the student follows along. While reading, the student will point to each of the words on the
page from left to right. Student will hold the book and turn the pages on his own. The
teacher will break up words into letter sounds.

Station 3

CCSS:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.1d Recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of


the alphabet.

Objective: The student will recognize and trace letters with dot markers.
Directions: The student will be introduced the sound of the letter A on the worksheet. The
student will trace the letter and repeat the sound. Student will be show the zoo phonics
animal, Ally Alligator, for that letter and told a story about the letter. The student will
stamp the letter with dot marker. Once done with that student may color the zoo phonics
animal.

Station 4
CCSS:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.3.A Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-
sound correspondences by producing the primary sound or many of the most
frequent sounds for each consonant.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.K.6 Speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings, and ideas
clearly.
Objective: The student will use dialog to talk about objects in the box and say first sounds
in words.
Directions: The student will be given a box of objects starting with the letter a. Student
may play with the objects and talk about how they look. The teacher will sound spell the
objects name with the student.

CCSS:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis


skills in decoding words.

Objective: Student will use technology to recognize words and letter sounds.
Directions: Student will be given time on the iPad. The student can play any of the games on
the iPad (only grade level appropriate games are loaded on it). Most of the games involve
letter sounds and sight words. There are also games that involve naming/ recognizing
shapes and colors.
