Based on the NWEA, and ISAT tests, Reilly elementary school will a 10% increase in all age
groups of students that will meet or exceed the standards.

Materials:
Pre-folded and cut, light-colored
construction paper
Crayons, color pencils, or markers
Glue sticks
Scissors

Dice
Roll-A-Topic Paper
Print-outs for middle section of the
foldable (various testing tips)
Pre- and Post- session surveys.

Procedure Outline
Counselor Introduction
Pre-Session Survey: (5 minutes)
Icebreaker (5 minutes)
Testing Skills Presentation and Foldable Decoration (30 minutes)
Post-Session Survey (5 minutes)

Procedure:
Counselor Introduction
1. Introduce yourself
2. Quickly explain what your roles are and what you can help the students with
Pre-Session Survey: (5 minutes)
Icebreaker (5 minutes)
1. Explain to the students that before we start the lesson, we want to play a little game to
have some fun and learn a little about each other.
2. Explain the instructions.
3. Have the students go around rolling the dice and answering the question.
Testing Skills Presentation and Foldable Decoration (30 minutes)
1. Go through the presentation and have students decorate the flaps along the way. Allow
about 2 minutes per slide/flap.
Post-Session Survey (5 minutes)

Plan for Evaluation: How will each of the following be collected?
Process Data: Attendance will be taken of all the students present for the lesson and from the
total number of post-session surveys.
Perception Data: Pre- and Post-tests will provide information on what students know and have
learned about testing tips and skills. Post-test should indicate that students will be able to identify
at least 10 testing tips.
Outcome Data: Data on standardize testing performance will identify the effectiveness of this
lesson.
Follow Up: Teachers will identify students who continue to not perform well and the counselor
will identify other resources for the student to use to improve their testing abilities.
