Title: Report into the features of digital graphics

Introduction/Method: In this report I am going to explain about different graphic
products, choose two and review them. I will also discuss the suitability and impact
of the selected digital graphics.
Background information:
What is Bitmap?
Bitmap pictures are pixel based images and one pixel contains one colour.
Also they are scalable but can only go down. Pixilation is an effect
caused by displaying a bitmap at a larger size that each pixel is invisible.
Jpg, bmp, png, tiff & gif files are known as bitmap files. Bitmap pictures
are more common than vector as bitmap pictures are easier to create.
Bitmap as usually found as photos and some illustrations.
What is Vector?
Vector images are based on mathematical equations. Vector pictures are
fully scalable which means whatever the size of the image it will stay the
same. Eps, pdf, ai, svg, & wmf files will be known as vector files. Vector
images are rare file types as they as harder to do than bitmap. Vectors are
usually illustrations & logos.

What are the features of your chosen graphic product?


This image includes vector and could also include some bitmap images. As the
writing is vector and the lady is a bitmap. The text is bold which stands out so the
reader can see what it says. The colour black & white is used to concentrate the
reader on the writing. The characters are 4 letters which is the name of the movie.
The character is only one person as she is the main character and takes the full
image. The image above will represent a high resolution picture. The size of the
main character is only half of her face and takes half of the poster. This picture is
a png file and has a dimension of 184 x 274.The type of this image is a movie poster.

The main audience of this film is for people who like sci-fi films and over 16s. The
purpose of the image is to persuade the reader to watch the film. Also it evokes
emotions by making the reader excited to watch the film. It is to inform the reader
who is in the film and whats the film called. It also wants the audience to see how
she is when she reaches 100% brain capacity.
How are the features suitable for the intended audience?
Analyse the impact of the graphic product.
Who is the main target audience for the graphic?
o I.e. Interest groups, gender, age etc
What is the intended impact upon the audience (how they are supposed to
make the audience feel)
Is the graphic suitable (fit) for purpose?
o If the purpose is to evoke emotion, does it actually do that?
o If it is an advert, does it make the audience want to buy it?

The interest group for this specific photo is people who like sci-fi because
the picture itself looks sci-fi. The gender group is unisex. The usual age
group for this film is 14+ as it is the age group that are most interested in
watching science fiction movies as they live in a digital world. It gives the
audience joy knowing that the film is coming out soon. Also, excitement
because it makes them feel that they want to watch the film. It can give
sadness if the audience doesnt like sci-fi films. Relief because the audience
can finally see who is in the film.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the graphic product?

For each of these graphic products, discuss the 2 strengths and 2


weaknesses, considering the features and the intended purpose and
audience.
Also comment on any suggested improvements

The strength is the picture is the way she looks as she doesnt look normal she looks
fierce and angry, which makes the audience wonder and think what is wrong.
Another strength is the colour scheme, as it makes thoughts go through people
heads as why it is black and white and with no colour which would build tension.
The weakness is that there is only one picture; they can improve this by making the
background interesting and a bit about the film on it.

The following picture is a vector image, I can tell this by the shapes and lines. The
London 2012 is concentrating mainly on the event that occurred in that year.
#London which makes people want to tweet about the game. Twitter because it is
the social network that they are trying to connected to the games. The colours
blue and white are used as it is the main colours of twitter. The objects of this
picture is the main places or things in London like big ben, taxis, bus, trains,
London eye, Barclays bikes and many more. This image doesnt have a resolution as
it should be high quality because it is a vector image. The image can be as small or
as big and the quality wont change. The type of graphic is a logo. The picture is
originally saved as a vector but has been changed to a png file. The dimension is 885
x 514.

The purpose of this image is to persuade the reader about twitter and making them
want to review or use twitter. Also, to inform the reader that they can stay
connected to the games by twitter.

o I.e. Interest groups, gender, age etc

The interest group for this picture is people who like socializing and those who
want to find out about twitter. This is unisex. The following age will be 12 and over.
The intended audience is people who enjoy watching sports as people from all
around the world come together to participate in one of the biggest sports event.
The picture shows many of London biggest attractions such as big ben and the
famous taxi cab. The features in this picture are suitable as it intends for the
correct audience as it is advertising the Olympics in London.
What is the intended impact upon the audience (how they are supposed to make
the audience feel?
Is the graphic suitable (fit) for purpose?
o If the purpose is to evoke emotion, does it actually do that?
o If it is an advert, does it make the audience want to buy it?

The picture makes the audience eager because they cant wait to watch the games.
Also excited because they know now that the games will happen soon.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the graphic product?

The strength of this image is the colour scheme as it relates to twitters original
colours, which will attract more people as it is one of the main social media
website/ app.
Also, the main places which are in the picture such as big ben and London eye,
which would make people, recognize that is in London and would make people to go
and see these places for themselves.
The weakness is that there are too much for the viewers to interpret.
To improve this, the main places should be enlarged and the position of it.
