BACKGROUND
The TSPS - Joint seaborne operation of DENR and BFAR operatives
commenced last September 17, 2015. The team was composed of DENRTSPS staff, Enforcement Division and BFAR personnel with two patrol
boats of BFAR were used in the entire duration of the operation that ends
last October 28, 2015.
The main objective of the Joint Seaborne Operation (JSO) is to curb the
rampant illegal commercial fishing activity in Taon strait by enforcing
laws, rules and regulations on marine resources protection at the same
time addressing the dwindling fish catch that affects 28,000 more or less
marginal fisher folks that depends their livelihood and daily subsistence in
Taon Strait a declared protected seascape under presidential
proclamation 1234 last May, 27, 1998 and pursuant to RA-7586 known as
the NIPAS law of 1992, which prohibit fishing and using motorized
equipment without permit/clearance from the Protected Area Management
Board (PAMB) under Sec. 20, Prohibitive Acts .
