Nutritionist
We will be having a nutritionist
come to class throughout the
semester. She will be educating
the students about making
healthy choices and maintaining a
balanced diet. The students will
be trying many different healthy
foods and snacks as well as
learning how to make all of them.
After completing all of the
nutrition classes, we will have a
field trip in May to Tucson Village
Farms. Students will learn about
the farm and receive two bags of
healthy produce.

day!

What Were Up To
Over the last couple months we have been working on many
new and exciting things!
In Math, we are expanding on
concepts that we have been working on
throughout the year. This includes
adding, subtracting, multiplying, and
dividing fractions. In addition, we are
learning measurment concepts dealing
with volume.
In Language Arts, we began
reading a new read aloud novel, The
Giver by Lois Lowry. We are practicing
comparing and contrasting the
characters, setting, and passages in
reading. We are also doing Non-Fiction
readings on global issues such as
climate change, population, and water.
The students have found these topics to be very interesting. We
have written a couple five paragraph essays that inform readers
about the global issues we have read about.
In Science, we just finished our Chemistry unit on Mixtures
and Solutions. Throughout the unit, we completed many

different experiments involving matter and chemical

reactions. In Social Studies, we have been communicating
with our Italian friends through e-mails as well as through
video. The students got the opportunity to film a video
giving our Italian friends a tour of our school and classroom.
We are gaining a better understanding of how people from
different parts of the world are similar and different.
In Music, the students have been continuing to work
very diligently with Ms. Hol on the musical, School House
Rock. In Art, Mrs. De Mars has the students working on cliff
dwellings made of clay and learning about the Anasazi
culture and other ancient civilizations. In Technology, Mr.
Buckley is continuing coding as well as having the students
create their own PowerPoint presentation about global
issues.
There has been many exciting things going on the
classroom with much more to come throughout the rest of
the school year ! So, please make sure that your child stays
healthy and attends school every day possible ! Thank you
for your continued support.

Student Teacher
I have now begun the full responsibility portion of student
teaching and will be teaching the class full-time until spring
break. It has been a great experience so far! I am learning
just as much from the students as they are learning from
me. I am enjoying getting to know more about each student
throughout my time at Carrillo. It is nice to see how each
students personality contributes to the classroom in a
