Technology Simulation and Problem-Solving

A. Introduce simulation games for real life simulation B. pairing up
for group project

Goals:

Students should be able to identify and describe the effects of

technology's changes in the way that we learn, live, work, and play or
entertain. Technology has change very much and we can use many
different simulation games to learn and to problem solve real life
problems that we encounter in real life.

Objectives:

To use Oregon trail simulation based game that students will need to
document their progress as a group.

Materials:

SmartBoard, Laptops, Internet, Notebook, pencil

Introduction:

To start the lesson, a power point slide presentation will be

presented to the students, which will introduce to them how
simulation type games can help them make real life decisions and
problem-solve situations.

Development:

Each student will be given a sheet of paper and they will designate
who is the recorder, supervisor and player. The students will be
grouped into 3s and asked to begin their simulation project once
their jobs are filled out on their papers. The teacher will start the
activity by guiding students by using the smartboard to properly set
all groups and guide them through the steps to begin project.

Practice:

Students will be allowed to use the internet as a resource, they are

required to take notes on what is happening during the simulation as
well as write down any unknown vocabulary, what problems they
encounter, and write a reflection at the end of class to track their
own personal progression and what problems they felt were
challenging..

Accommodations:

Students will have help by the teacher for 15 minutes to help them
think about their progress and what changes they might need to make
in order to successfully complete their project. Also using the

smartboard to explain help students problem solve or have a group

discussion.

Checking For
Understanding:

A class discussion will take place after their reflection is finished and
students will be asked to explain what they found was difficult, what
strategies they used which helped their progression in the game and
what was easy for them as well.

Closure:

Students will need to finish their reflection as an exit pass and have
teacher sign it. Also, explain to them what expectations is expected
next class.

Evaluation:

The students will be assessed by asking level 2 and level 3 Blooms

Taxonomy questions to check for understanding and possible use level
4 for those that are much more advanced depending on group
progression.
