You interacted in a positive and respectful manner
with students throughout the lesson. You monitored
and supported student efforts and used low profile
techniques to redirect student behaviors. Maintaining
student attention was challenging during discussions!
What strategies might be useful for addressing this
behavior for future lessons? You offered some good
ideas for clarifying directions with the puzzle
activity. Students shared their thinking both orally

ways to further develop the sharing of multiple
perspectives during discussions.

Evidence (Candidate and Student)

Your sequence of activities related to one another so that
students could recognize understand the meaning for each
word. You used word cards, puzzles and student generated
sentences to accomplish this learning goal. The puzzle was
an especially engaging activity for students to make these
connections. You used questions to effectively challenge
student thinking. You anticipated student needs and
provided examples appropriately to convey ideas relevant
to the learning focus. Great adjustment to have early
finishers pair with students who still were completing their
puzzles. You provided students with opportunities to share
their own ideas related to word meanings. Your closure did
a great job of summarizing learning and identifying problem
vocabulary
Think about some of the tips we discussed for improving
your instruction, especially in regards to modeling
techniques and generating more student participation
during discussions. How could you show the word cards so
everyone can see them? It would have been beneficial to
model the puzzle activity for the whole group first!
