Texture Painting

Directions: You will create a painting using the texture techniques we studied in class. You will be required to use at least THREE of the textures you
practiced in your texture shapes project. The subject and the style of your painting is YOUR choice; however, as you brainstorm ideas, consider
subjects and styles of paintings that will most fully allow you to employ texture. Recall some of the artists we have looked at as a class as well as the student
examples. The rubric below will be used to assess your final piece.

Objective #1: Planning of Project

Standard: The artists work demonstrates that he/she considered the unique properties of a texture painting and incorporated this
into his/her plan. The artist completed a rough draft (in pencil or pastel) of his/her painting before embarking on the final. At any
point during the process the artist could explain how he/she envisioned the final product and how he/she intended to reach that goal,
even if this vision changed as the work emerged. The artist gave a solid attempt to complete his/ her project on time and to the best
of his/her ability. In addition, the project was completed without rushing.
Objective #2: Design and Unity
Standard: The artists final painting successfully uses design elements and principles such as space, emphasis, contrast, color and
balance to create a specific mood and style. The piece does not appear to be haphazard, but well thought-out. Final painting has a
feeling of unity and completion.
Objective #3: craftsmanship
Standard: The artist exhibits that he/she has mastered the materials and tools necessary to create a texture painting. The artist uses
these materials and tools to their full potential to enhance and strengthen his/her painting. The final product is a neat, clean and
finished painting.
Objective #4: Use of Texture
Standard: The artist incorporates at least 3 of the textures we studied in class. These textures are used appropriately and with
consideration for the subject and style of the painting. The textures add interest and depth the finished painting.
Objective #5: Creativity
Standard: The artist has taken the techniques we discussed for creating a texture painting and applied it in a way that is totally his/her
own. The artists personality and artistic voice comes through his/her work. A previously done piece may be used as inspiration, but
artists final piece is not a copy of another artists work.
