I. DESCRIPTION OF CONTENT & CONTENT TYPE (Fact, Procedure, Concept, or Principle):
Identifying and describing the different attributes of different shapes (triangles, quadrilaterals,
pentagons, hexagons, and cubes). (Procedure)
II. LEARNING OUTCOME (Objective):
Students will be able to identify different shapes using specified attributes such as, number of
angles, or given number of equal faces.
III. CURRICULUM CONNECTION (How lesson fits into larger unit sequence):
Prior to this lesson students have learned about basic shapes. Following these lesson students will
be given a worksheet to test their knowledge on the different attributes each shape has.
IV. INSTRUCTION
A. ENGAGEMENT (Motivational Activities):
Teacher will show pictures of shapes on stick, students will be asked to perform a speed round
guessing what shape the teacher is holding.
B. INSTRUCTIONAL SEQUENCE (Teaching Methodology with Student Activities):
C. Step #1
a. Ask students to share with a partner a name of a shape and name two characteristics that
make them that shape.
Ex. A circle is round and has no corners , Ex. Triangle has 3 sides and 3 angles

b. Teacher listens to pairs responses.


Step #2
a. Teach will now name certain characteristics that shapes have, such as angles and faces.
While students are given a worksheet with such characteristics marked on the sheet.
b. Teacher will walk around the classroom to monitor work.
Step #3
a. Teacher will now ask students to grab a white board from the table and teacher will ask
question like (what are two characteristics that a circle has?)
b. Students will hold up their white boards
B. APPLICATION ACTIVITY (Practice and/or Reflection):
Formative: Give them a worksheet to review their understanding of the different attributes each
shape has.
Summative: Students will be asked to summarize what they have learned in the lesson, such as
what shapes have what angles, side, etc.

V. ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES (Methods for Obtaining Evidence of Learning):


Formative: Give them a worksheet to review their understanding of the different attributes each
shape has.
Summative: Students will be asked to summarize what they have learned in the lesson, such as
what shapes have what angles, side, etc.

Content will be simplified to aid students comprehend the concept
