For weighing sample soil to obtain specific amount of sample needed for sieve
test.

2. Standard Sieve
Sieves are

separating

mixtures (soil

according to size.

3. Sieve analysis mechanical shaker machine

To expose the soil sample particles to all the openings in
each sieve in a stack.

4. Container, bucket and shovel

To take the sufficient amount of soil sample for sieve analysis test.
5. Sample of fine aggregate

PROCEDURE
1. Put the soil sample in the container.

2. Separate the soil sample in the container into 4 parts (quartering

process) .

3. From the separated parts, obtain 500g from

soil sample in the bucket to weight. The
including the mass of the bucket obtain 920g.

4. Arrange the standard sieve according to the sequence size from the bigger size at the
top to the smaller size to the bottom.

5. Pour the 500g of soil sample into the standard sieve plate before switch on the
mechanical sieve machine.

6. Switch on the mechanical sieve machine to sieve the soil sample

about 7 minutes.

7. After 7 minutes, weight the retained soil sample (fine aggregate) for each sieve plate
size and the mass of each plate alone without the soil sample to obtain the mass of
retained soil sample only.
8. Record the data properly in the result sheet and do the data analysis.
