PRIDE PROVIDER PROGRAM

The Pride Provider Program is an initiative of the Greater
Columbus LGBTQ Health Coalition and was created to connect
lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community members
with health and social service providers who are committed to
providing LGBTQ-centered care. Pride Providers are those that meet
criteria determined by the coalition to be critical to the provision of
culturally competent care. Participation is voluntary and all certied
providers have affirmed their compliance with the four criteria.
If you have questions about the Pride Provider Program
or would like to become a Pride Provider, please contact
the Greater Columbus LGBTQ Health Coalition at

QUESTIONS FOR THE CRITERIA

The criteria to become a certied PRIDE Provider are simple, but
comprehensive.
Do you promote your services to the LGBTQ community?
Connecting with LGBTQ populations is an essential rst step to
resolving health disparities. Advertising, web presence, or word of
mouth are all great ways to let the community know you're an ally.
Not sure how? The Lavender Listings is a great place to start as is a
listing with GLMA: Health Professionals for LGBT Equality.
Have you provided or received any LGBTQ-specic competency
training?
LGBTQ populations face specic health needs. The Columbus
LGBTQ Health Initiative provides free cultural competency training
to interested organizations.
Do you provide materials designed to educate or support LGBTQ
clients and their families?
LGBTQ-specic brochures, photographs, advertisements, or other
print materials that are fully visible or readily available creates an
inclusive environment in your office.
Do you allow your client population an opportunity to self-identify
sexual orientation and gender identity?*
Correctly identifying patients on identication forms, in note
elds, and in person means that you avoid confusion and foster
acceptance in your client population.
*The inclusion of "sexual orientation" and "gender identity"
categories in patient demographic collection forms and related
materials demonstrates concern for protecting the rights of LGBTQ
clients. However, the Greater Columbus LGBTQ Health Coalition
recognizes that not all practitioners have direct control over their
paperwork. In order to identify practitioners that give culturally
competent care to the best of their ability we have granted
exemptions to those providers who indicate that they incorporate
inclusive language in direct patient interactions. Each exemption is
noted in the directory.
