Retell a story using time lapse recording and imovie on Ipads to digital representation of changes that can
occur within a man made environment.
Document the beginning, the middle and the end of the book.
Participate in group work collaboratively.

Provision for students at educational risk:


No special needs students,
However with approx. 6-8 ND student assisting in the
lesson, we will be able to assist all students individually
if required. One student will be allocated to each
working group.

Seat children on mat area as a group.


Introduce ourselves and tell children why we are in their classroom.
Acknowledge students previous work with their own teacher on the
management of and changes within our environment.
Ask them to share information. Turn to the person next to them and share 2
things that they have learnt about the environment around them and how it
can change. Give students 1 minute to discuss.
Ask one student from each pair to share something.

Introduce book, The Chimpanzees of Happytown
Ask students What they think the story is about? Showing them the front
cover.
Read the book.
Talk about what has happened in the book, ask students questions;
Example questions:
What was happening in the story?
Does the town look very happy? Why?
What do you think Chutney is going to do with the seed?
What has changed on this page? Are the chimpanzees still sad?
Does Happytown look happy now?
What changes can you see from the first picture and the last picture?

Get an idea of what previous knowledge students have had with ipads &
imovie.
Ask students to put hands up if they have used an ipad before?
Ask students to keep their hands up if they have used imovie?
Last, ask students to keep their hand up if they have seen timelapse video
before?

Explain to students what we want them to do


Retell the story as a news report, using imovie. Show reminder

Each group will create a background scene using collage materials
and ipads to record using timelapse, Show reminder prompt.
and a news report of the story recording with ipads and imovie. Show
reminder prompt
Need to include the beginning, middle and end of story. Prompt
Ask students to tell us what happened at the start, in the middle and
at the end of the story record on whiteboard.

Separate into two groups, using QV tags. Each student will take a
QV card and scan it using an ipad to be designated into their news
groups, including extra ND students

Pack away time, give all students 5 minute warning by speaking with each
group individually. At the end of 5 minutes, 1,2,3 eyes to me, and ask
students to begin packing away and return to mat.
