Heritage Fair is a chance to learn, tell stories and share information about
Canada, Canadian history, Canadian heroes and legends and important Canadian
events. This is a very challenging and time consuming project for students to
do in a short amount of time. However, it is extremely worthwhile. This year,
all students will participate in a School Fair with community judges. The
Regional Fair in Port Alberni is on Friday, May 6. I'm not sure how many spots
UES has, but the best projects will get to go.

Project Requirements:
1. Title for backboard - Should be fully coloured - can use hand drawn letters,
WordArt or other creative ideas.
2. Illustrations - must include at least 4 relevant illustrations with captions explaining
their importance. Illustrations must be fully coloured. If printed off the
computer, they will need to be filled in with colour. (More marks are given to
students who hand draw their own illustrations.)
3. Map/Chart/Graph/Timeline - must include at least one graphic organizer relevant
to the topic. All organizers should be neatly and fully coloured and have a legend
explaining them.
4. Creative Component relating to the topic. Students may bring in or build: 3D
objects, dress up as a character, create a movie or digital story relating to their
topic. This part of the project will be done at home and due at school by Monday,
April 25. More marks will be given to students who obviously put in their own time
and effort.
5. Backboard - the school has backboards but students can bring or create their own.
Organization, thoughtfulness, artistic input and neatness are considered in the
final mark.
6. Bibliography - 1 must be a print source (textbooks, books, magazine, or
encyclopedia). Museum visits and interviews are good sources. We will complete
bibliographies together, but you must keep track of them:
Books
7. Written Content - May be put on the backboard or made into a booklet. May also
make a Clicker6 book or PowerPoint presentations, however, these options may not
qualify for the Port Alberni Regional Fair.
o 40 facts pages - hand in print and internet facts, double spaced.
