Spiritual Sunday: Experiencing Worship through a Film Lens


Purpose:
To expand and appreciate students religious culture through the lens of a religious or faith-based
film/movie
Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to share new ideas about religion regarding the film/movie
Students will be able to relax and enjoy a moment of piece and worship
Students will be able to come together with one another and discuss the differences
between each others religions
Prep Materials:
Approval by Residence Director
Flyers for Spiritual Sunday Event
Snacks
Movie
Directions/ Guidelines:
Identify a film/movie based on a religious, spiritual genre. Find a time and location on a Sunday
that best fits the residence hall and students schedules, taking into considerations family and
church responsibilities. Create a map consisting of the program and location
Students should vote on a film prior to the event
Students will have a discussion about what they thought about the film and how it relates
to their religious beliefs.
Students will write a one page reflection comparing their beliefs to that of how it
contradicts to the film.
Evaluation:
Students will be asked to complete a survey regarding their experience of the event and if the
program brought up some good cultural identity issues. In the survey students will also be asked
if they felt comfortable while at the event and having the discussion afterwards. Students are
asked if they would like this event to continue for the future and are open to offer suggestions.

Yoga-Get Physical Mondays: Become Active in Beginning of the Week


Purpose:
To provide a space for students to become physically active therefore mentally prepared before
the start of the week
Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to fit some exercise into their day
Students will be able to clear their minds before the next school day
Students will be able to build relationships; therefore finding a workout buddy for the
future
Prep Materials:
Advertising flyers/posters
Workout equipment and music
Location: gym or hall
Directions/Guidelines:
Find a yoga instructor to perform the program. Find a place that will house a group of students,
but also that it will be near the middle of campus to be at a reachable destination for all students
to participate in.
Students will attend the exercise activities(yoga)
Students choose the music(melody) that they will like to listen to
Students will reflect on the program at the end
Evaluation:
Students will be given a survey to be completed at the end of the session. Students will have the
opportunity to rate the program and give feedback for future alterations.

Valentines Social: Socializing with Singles/Couples


Purpose:
To offer a time to celebrate with other students during a time of love and friendship through
bonding activities, and provide space for a diverse group of people to come together
Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to communicate with other students and build relationships
Students will be able to connect, relate and respect each others relationship status
Students will be able to get together with friends and or couples to spend time and bond
Prep Materials:
Advertising flyers/posters
Activities
Snacks
Directions/Guidelines:
Find a location around campus where students will have the space to mingle and connect with
other single people and couples. Create a flyer that will include the events activities and
location.
Students choose a couple of activities that they might want to do during the social event
Students will participate in the activities
Students will give write a one page reflection
Evaluation:
Students will be emailed a survey regarding the Valentines social event. Students will have the
opportunity to provide feedback and offer suggestions to improve or eliminate the event.

Scrabble Night: Scholarly Scavenger Hunt


Purpose:
To provide a time for students to use their critical thinking skills to take part of this intellectual
game
Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to use their critical thinking skills to complete their game
Students will be able to be involve in a lifelong learning moment
Students will be able to connect with people and build relationships
Prep Materials:
Advertising flyers/posters
Scrabble games
Directions/Guidelines:
Find a location in one of the residence halls where students will have the space to experience this
Scholarly Hunt. Create a flyer that will advertise the event and clearly illustrate the directions to
the location.
Students choose what group they would like to be in
Students will participate in the activities
Evaluation:
Students will be given a survey regarding the Scrabble Night event. Students will have the
opportunity to provide feedback and reflect if this program added new skills to their learning.
The results will give us criticism about the event and see its effectiveness on creating a social
identity forum with students. Students will reflect on the event and how it brings together people
with different educational backgrounds and skills.

Dia De Los Muertos: Helping Students with Emotional Moments


Purpose:
To provide a day to commemorate the people who students have lost, through a relay for life
walk.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to stay in touch with their feelings and grief
Students will be able to find ways to cope with the emotional challenges in life due to a
family members death by talking with others
Students will be able to build relationships with others and become part of a support
group
Prep Materials:
Advertising the event/ flyers
Decorations such as alters, candles and music
Location appropriate for the event
Directions/ Guidelines:
Identity a location that will be appropriate for an event that will consist of a medium-sized
gathering. Create a flyer that will include the day, time and place as well as the directions to the
location. Students will be invited to bring photos, personal items, and posters to bring awareness
to others about their losses.
Students should choose to attend the Dia De Los Muertos Event
Students will reflect on the event and provide feedback in the evaluation
Evaluation:
Students were asked to complete a survey regarding their experience of the event and if they felt
supported as part of this event. Students were also asked if they had any suggestions to alter the
event and provide a different way to offer support to students going through a rough time in their
life. Students will reflect on the diversity and uniqueness of the program since it is a Mexican
tradition.
