It is my distinct pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Shawn Flynn, an applicant for the available
position your school district. I have known Shawn professionally for over six years; as we have served together
as Curriculum Facilitators. Shawn is dedicated member of the Campbell community, often giving of his own
time to ensure that students are challenged and invested in their educations, not just in the classroom, but also
the school community.
Shawn Flynn has a presence in his classroom, one that transcends a physical sense. If one were to walk into his
classroom on any given day, they would find students active and engrossed in their learning, while Mr. Flynn
facilitates. His sense of humor and quick wit brings what many students find to be a dull subjectto life. His
lessons are engaging, creative and thought-provokingespecially students who have historically struggled to
understand mathematics. Daily, students are challenged to think critically and analytically in terms of
mathematical concepts, applying them to real world scenarios. His command of mathematics and depth of
knowledge has been a critical component in the development of the curricula for math courses. Mr. Flynn has
taught nearly every course the department offers; which demonstrates this breadth knowledge.
While Mr. Flynn has been an asset as a classroom teacher, it is his position of leadership that has had a more
profound influence on teaching and learning. Professionally, Shawn Flynn has served as the Mathematics
Department Curriculum Facilitator for over four years. In this capacity, Mr. Flynn has worked tirelessly to
ensure that all students are able to learn and achieve in mathematics. Under his leadership, Shawn took the
struggling mathematics department and righted the ship. Not only has the department become more united, it
also works closely together on major initiatives. This is evidenced by the gains in the NECAP scores each year,
rising AP Calculus scores, and NWEA test scores have seen increasesa data analysis reveals that students
have made steady progress and gains in their testing and achievement scores since Mr. Flynn took over the
department. Additionally, Mr. Flynn was instrumental in stream lining department Core Competencies to
ensure that student learning and achievement was driven by twenty-first century skills. Current research
indicates that students find greater success in math when they are exposed to it daily, and capitalizing on this,
Mr. Flynn was granted the permission by the School Board and Administrative Team to offer Calculus,
Geometry and other courses each day. And so, the launch of his Every Day Math Initiative began. The results
have been astounding! Students at all levels continue to make progress, and the feedback from students,
parents and the community, indicate support for the program. In the coming year, many more of the
mathematics courses will be offered each day, allowing for a greater population of the students to find success
in math. Mr. Flynn also worked to create a partnership with Southern New Hampshire University and Nashua
Community College so that students in Honors/ AP level courses are able to earn dual enrollment credit. Mr.
Flynn has worked to align our current mathematics program with that of the Common Core, which is no easy
task.

In addition to serving on several committees, Shawn is a lifelong learner, one who spends much of his free time
participating in professional development opportunities, pursuing degrees of higher education and has even
taken the lead in training other teachers. Mr. Flynn facilitated several workshops on formative and summative
grading, and has assisted struggling teachers.
Having worked closely with Shawn Flynn on numerous school-wide projects, department initiatives and
professional development, I have the utmost confidence in Shawn as an educator and school leader. His
charismatic, compassionate and creative nature fosters a school community that challenges and motivates its
members. Shawn Flynn will be an asset to any school community to which he is a part. Please feel free to
