Mathematics is a website
that supplies a collection of
math applets!

We have some very exciting news in the classroom! We

are beginning a new topic about Rational numbers. This
topics can be somewhat tricky to students. I wanted to let
you know that we will be focusing in on two applets,
Math Splash and NLVM. These applets are technology based, which makes
learning inside and outside of the classroom extremely accessible. These applets will help the children in visualizing each math concept and practice
their skills, while allowing us to keep track of
their progress.

Math Splash

The NLVM will provide

students in our classroom with additional
technological tools to
more visually and concretely understand the
topics we cover in class. NLVM is a collection of
applets that students from K-12 can use to visualize mathematical concepts. This website provides a variety of activities for each topic covered in every grade. As we begin our lesson
about rational numbers, it is vital that the children continue their practice outside of our
classroom to master the foundations in order to
move forward in their mathematical ability.

Math Splash is an educational software that

allows students to augment their mathematical understanding through participation in
activities and games. What is truly amazing about
Math Splash is that parents and teachers can track
the progress of the child and monitor their strengths
and weaknesses
throughout their
math learning. This
applet is not limited
to rational
numbers.
It
provides
the
students
with many topics that we cover during the 3rd
grade. This applet does not fall short when your
child moves past the 3rd grade. Math Splash covers
grades K-5. I personally enjoy how this app allows
the students to create drawings on top of the problem so that the child can work the problem out in
their own way. The only downfall to this app is that
you must pay if you want to conduct more problems
besides the guaranteed 10 problems a day. This app
was launched along side of the Common Core Standards, which makes this app reliable for the children
to play with.

We need your help!

Your support and encouragement of their
learning in their work will only increase student motivation and their math and technology capabilities will certainly benefit greatly.
