News from the Lopez Family

Serving as missionaries with Commission to Every Nation at Wisdom and Grace Christian School
March 2016

It seems these days that so much is the same and yet nothing is the same. We continue to go to
work and send the children off to school each day as we always have. My thoughts often wander
throughout the day caught up in imagining how in a few short months this will all look very different.
When we meet people in the street, usually the first question is when are you leaving? The big
news that only a few close friends and family knew of for almost a year is now public and Im still
caught off guard by the questions. I am reminded that so much is changing.
All of this signifies that we are in full launch mode. Since publishing our news in January, our sending
agency, Commission to Every Nation, has activated our online account for donations and is currently
accepting monthly donations and special gifts that will be held for us until we leave for the field. We
are actively working to establish ministry partnerships and had the privilege of sharing our plans with
Mountain West Church, our home church, on March 6. We are excited about holding one on one
meetings with people to share our vision for ministry. We have begun to have some inquiries about
our house and while there is no contract on the house, I am encouraged as God shows us that He
has already worked out this detail in advance. It has been my prayer that we would be able to sell
the house without having to list it and He is reminding me that nothing is impossible for Him. And so,
we continue to trust Him in all the details.
I would be not be telling the truth though if I told you that trusting is easy. I like to be in control. I
ENJOY being in control. I do NOT enjoy the overactive mind that keeps me up at 3:00 am flashing
the very long to-do list in front of me. I like my sleep. However, the 3:00 appointment causes me to
be in constant communication with my Father even if that communication sounds a lot like me
crying out to Him to calm my mind and help me back to sleep. I know He delights in that time with
me and that He is teaching me to trust Him with everything. You see, I still tend to act as though that
there are some things that I can handle without Him but I know that He is challenging me to give it all
to Him.
We are currently in the middle of taking inventory and purging the items that are not necessary for
our daily life. The girls and I have been sorting through clothes and toys and were able to put over
300 items in a consignment sale. We are preparing for our first of many yard sales on April 9. And so
we begin the process of becoming untethered to our earthly possessions along with many of our
friends who are donating items for our sale. Its amazing how much we have accumulated in the
almost 8 years in our home.
Many people have asked about the girls. How do they feel about the move? Emma is having a
harder time than Selah. She is sad about leaving her family, her school and her friends but is also
beginning to show some excitement about the move. Selah embraces change a little more easily
and is constantly asking to go to Guatemala. Ive been told shes asked all of her teachers to come
with her. I wont be surprised if they take her up on the offer.
There will be many opportunities to be involved in sending us to the field before November 1. There
are yard sales and banquets and plenty of opportunities for coffee. We would love to see all of you
face to face if possible. We want you to know that we are committed to investing in your life and
that we depend on the continuation of the relationship that we have with you as we journey into the
next season. Please let us know how we can be in prayer for you.
