TEK: (4.5c) compare and contrast a variety of mixtures and solutions such as rocks in sand,
sand in water, or sugar in water.

Summative:

Short Essay: Ask the students to write a short essay in which they describe what a
mixture is, what a solution is, what the two have in common, and provide 3 examples
of each.

Exam: Students will take small exam in which they will be asked to describe the
properties of a mixture, the properties of a solution, the similarities between the two,
what makes them different, and then provide 2 samples of each.

Presentation: Students will give a group presentation on mixtures and solutions to the
class. Groups will be composed of 3-4 students. They will be graded both on their
presentation of the material and a summary paragraph each individual student has to
turn in after their presentation, to demonstrate their individual understanding of
mixtures and solutions.
