Leadership Reflection

My leadership journey as a student began the very first semester at Touro University
Nevada (TUN). I was the Student Government Association (SGA) Vice President of cohort 2016
where I upheld the position of leadership through the coordinating of fundraisers for our class as
well as helping plan events, and assisting our class president with events. This position taught me
the importance of time management, organizational skills, and built strong interpersonal skills.
Through networking with various businesses that would sponsor our cohort I not only became a
stronger communicator, but also a better advocate. Another leadership position I took on was the
Volleyball Captain for our cohort. This enabled me engage in social interaction with members of
my cohort, coordinate practices, and collaborate with other disciplines within the Touro
community.
As I continued to participate in various leadership opportunities through my progression
at TUN, I learned a lot about myself as a leader and the importance of encouraging my peers to
get involved in school-related activities. These activities promote occupational balance and
awareness of our profession. Upon completing the leadership course in sixth semester I gained
additional knowledge on various leadership theories as well as the strengths I possess as an
individual and leader. When entering into the field of occupational therapy, I will capitalize on
my strengths and practice emotional intelligence to first understand myself before I can attempt
to gain an understanding of others. The assignment of YOURbrand in the leadership class
enabled me to identify leadership behaviors that I possess in which I can use to my benefit when
working as an entry level occupational therapist. This assignment also allowed me to be creative
in coming up with a mission statement and logo that represents me and the leadership qualities
that I have always had and those that have evolved throughout my time at TUN.
