The Interior Design Project

In this assignment, you will be taking your new knowledge of space such as perspective drawing, architectural
features, and creating atmospheres through design and designing your very own interior space that fuses two different
styles.

Planning Stage

1. Consider the space that you would like to design. Is it a business, like a coffee shop or lounge, or a domestic
space like a bedroom or kitchen?
2. In your sketchbook, determine the function of the space, and what sort of furniture and decor you would need
for the function of that space. (For instance, a bedroom needs a bed to be functional)
3. Consider the presentations on the different styles of interior design. In a folder (in the student drive), collect
some pictures and examples of the dcor that you might find in two distinct styles of interior design that you
love. These are the two different styles that you will be fusing in your final project.
4. Submit a proposal in your sketchbook that proposes:
a) The type of interior space you will be designing

b) The two different styles you will be inspired by and why

c) The main dcor pieces you will be including in your room (sketches based on the images you collected)

d) The mood or atmosphere you hope to communicate in your finished piece

Designing Stage

1. Consider if you would like to design a 1-2 point perspective piece which one would be the best fit for your skills
and time commitment to this project?
2. Create some plans for how you will organize the space with 2-3 thumbnail sketches in your sketchbook these
dont need to be perfect perspective drawings, but they should give you an idea of how to create a sense of
space in your composition with the dcor objects in the room.

3. Choose a final sketch and consider a color scheme for the space that will help you achieve your atmosphere and
style. Try it out with some colored pencils.

Studio Stage

1. Consider if you would like to create your interior design project in pencil/watercolor or digitally using a paint or
illustrator program.
2. Apply your ideas from the designing stage to your final project with the final considerations:
a) Your piece will be A4 in size
b) Your finished work should accurately depict perspective (either 1 or 2 point perspective) in the rendering of all
architectural and dcor features

c) Your finished work should contain dcor/features from two distinct interior design styles

d) Your finished work should use a color scheme and textures to enhance its desired atmosphere and styles

e) Your finished work should organize the dcor features to create a sense of implied space that the viewer can see
through
