The Search Advisory Committee has met several times since being charged in January. The Committee
developed a comprehensive leadership profile for the position that was shared with the University Community in February. There were a total of 79 applicants for the position. The candidates represented
diverse backgrounds and came from leading higher education institutions with established and highly
regarded athletic programs.
Recently, the Committee met for two days in New York City and interviewed 8 semifinalist candidates
including five sitting Directors of Athletics and 3 senior high level Associate Athletic Directors.. All
were outstanding leaders with exceptional administrative and fundraising experience and a proven track
record in university athletics. Indeed, we have been very impressed with the quality of applicants for
this important position at UVM.
While several highly qualified candidates were discussed for possible on campus interviews, the Committee recommended that one candidate be advanced at this time for additional interviews on campus,
Jeffrey Schulman, Senior Associate Director of Athletics at the University of Vermont. The Committee
believes that Mr. Schulmans experience, talents, and skills align very well with the needs of the Athletic
Department and the University.
Mr. Schulman will meet with members of the coaching staff, administrative leadership in the Athletic
department, members of the Student-Athletes Advisory Council and senior leaders on Tuesday, March
29, 2016. In addition, there is an open forum for Mr. Schulman followed by an informal reception. The

your involvement in the important process of selecting the next Athletic Director for the University of
Vermont.
