Discuss the differences between the grammar translation

approach and the direct approach.
At first glance, both the grammar translation approach and the direct
approach seem to be totally different, and indeed they are. First of all,
grammar translation approach is more systematic and strict, based
on rigid structural grammatical forms and back translation, with the
purpose of encouraging the ability of read and write in the target
language. And as a result, de-emphasizes the listening and speak
student`s ability, which is fundamental in the process of acquiring a
language. On the other hand, direct approach is essentially based on
principles of first language acquisition and relies on a total immersion
system, where the student is deeply submerged in the culture of the
target language and emphasizes speaking rather than the writing and
reading, as the most important aspects of a language.

Which approach closely aligns with your current teaching style?

To be perfectly honest with you, I use both. In English there is not a

perfect or unique formula to teach. As an English teacher the way I
teach is a blend of several approaches. Every day I use different
techniques like reading comprehension, use of cognates, filling in the
blanks, enactments etc. We have to use as much as possible
resources to create an interesting class to our students. This is the
way to make English a little bit more approachable and interesting.
