Objectives
Students will be able to:
a Answer questions to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding
of the main events and characters in Macbeth as they relate to the
author's theme development.
b Understand different motifs and symbols, connecting them to
developing themes.
c Summarize and demonstrate their understanding of each scene and
quotes in Act III.
d Translate a passage from Act III.
Standards
CE 2.1.7: Demonstrate the understanding of written, spoken, or visual
information by restating, paraphrasing, summarizing, critiquing, or
composing a personal response; distinguish between a summary and a
critique.

a Prior to this lesson, as a class, we have listened to the audio and
discussed Acts I-IV. The students have taken quizzes and completed
assignments and projects on all of these acts.

a Review lesson objectives.
b Warm up by discussing and reviewing Act IV.
c Worksheet Summary of Act V: Students are to complete this sheet as
we are reading or just completed reading. It is due the following day.
d Students are to get their Macbeth What it Means worksheet and fill it in
as we discuss the quotes as a class.

(Total of 5 minutes)
Students will silently follow along to the audio version of the end of
Macbeth Act V. The recording is a total of 19 minutes. This will be
stopped repeatedly by the teacher to discuss specific lines from the
play. We will complete as much of Act V as possible during this class
period.

i Scene 1:
1 Doctor says sleepwalking is for the troubled.

a Calls him many names after the solider says there
are ten thousand men coming to fight them, saying
that they are outnumbered.

Scene 4:

but is not very bothered by the news

and only a tale told by others after one has died

Scene 6:
1 Malcolm tells his men to throw their disguise and get

Scene 7:
1 Young Siward tells Macbeth that he is the most evil of
people. Macbeth proceeds to kill him. After this killing,
Macbeth repeats the second apparition showing that he is
confident again saying that no man born of woman will
harm him.
2 Macduff will not fight anyone other than Macbeth. Why?
a The innocent soldiers have done nothing to harm
him or his family.
b He wants to avenge the death of his family.
Scene 8:
1 Macbeth does not want to kill Macduff, why?
