1. Discuss the importance of quality team works, and team

building
Team work is a fundamental element of total quality. A team is
developed when there is an agreement as to the mission, members
adhere to ground rules, there is a fair distribution of responsibility and
authority, and finally people adapt to change. Team work promotes
better communication, multiplies the potential of individual members,
and produces positive peer pressure. Part of building a successful team
is choosing team members wisely. The four step process for an
effective team building is:

Assess
Plan
Execute
Evaluate

2. How would you handle conflicts in quality teams?

The way to handle conflicts would be in 3 ways; personally negative,
team negative, or positive. An important responsibility of team leaders
is to ensure that team members respond to conflict in a positive way. It
will resolve the conflict in a way that builds team unity and supports
the teams mission.
3. How do you reward quality achievements in a team?
Employees are still compensated as individuals. All employees receive
their traditional individual base pay. Then there are incentives that
allow employees to increase their income by surpassing goals set for
their individual performance and team performance. The most
successful compensation systems combine both individual and team
pay. Team and individual compensation systems can be developed in
four steps:

Decide what performance to measure

Determine how to measure the performance
Identified the rewards to be offered
Integrated related processes

Managers who identify negativity in their organizations should take the

appropriate steps to eliminate it. The principles of overcoming
negativity and conflict in the work place are:

Communicate: effective communication is the best defense

against negativity in organizations. (Acknowledge innovation,
suggestions, and concerns)

Establish clear expectations: make sure all employees know

what is expected of them individually and as teams.

Provide for anxiety venting: managers need to give their direct

reports opportunities to vent in a nonthreatening, affirming
environment, this means listening supportively.

Build trust: negatively cannot flourish in an atmosphere of trust.

Managers can build trust with employees by (always delivering what
is promised, being open minded to suggestions, honesty with
employees, lending a hand when necessary, and accepting blame
and sharing credit)

Involve employees: involving employees by asking their opinions,

soliciting their feedback, and making them part of the solution are
some cures for negativity in organizations.

Human conflict is a normal and unavoidable aspect of the highly
competitive modern place, even in a total quality setting. When people
work together, no matter how committed they are to a common goal,
human conflict is going to occur. Managers in a total quality setting
must be proficient in resolving conflict. Conflict resolution and
stimulation, taken together, are known as conflict management. To
manage and resolve conflict the following need to be done:

Select a private place where the issue can be discussed

confidentially by everyone involved.

Make sure that both sides understand that thy are responsible for
both the problem and the solution.

Solicit opening comments from both sides. Let them express

their concerns, feelings, ideas, and thoughts, but in a
nonaccusatory manner.

Guide participants toward a clear and specific definition of the

problem.

Encourage participants to propose solutions. Examine the

problem from variety of different perspectives and discuss any
and all solutions proposed.

Evaluate the costs versus the gains (cost-benefit analysis) of all

proposed solutions and discuss them openly. Choose the best
solution.

Reflect on the issue and discuss the conflict resolution process.

Encourage participants to express their opinions as to how the
process might be improved.

More

Maintain trust by keeping promises

of the same solutions should be eliminated

Communication that is open, continuous and inclusive can do more than

anything else to ensure that conflict is properly managed in the
workplace.
10.

Why does quality suffer if there is a major conflict?

Quality will suffer if there is a major conflict because if there is a

conflict, then there will not be any type of understanding.
Communication would be ignored. Total quality setting must be
proficient in resolving conflict. Productive conflict consists of genuine,
harmonious disagreement over the best way to solve a problem. In a
total quality organization, managers actually stimulate discussion.
When you resolve a conflict it takes time, causing to affect your quality.
