The who, where, and when of Islamic religion:

In Saudi Arabia in the
7th century Prophet
Muhammad was visited
by the angel Gabriel
over 20 years. He
did so to relay
messages from
God, or Allah, to
Prophet Muhammad.
Muslims recognize
this one true God as
the same one that
sent messages to early
Judeo- Christian
prophets; like Moses
or Jesus. Also according to
Islamic religion, Muhammad is the last and greatest of prophets.

The Holy Text of Islam: The Quran

The Quran gives Islamic followers a guideline of the messages given to Prophet
Muhammad by God. Or as
he is referred to
within the text; Allah.
According to Dr.
Jamal Badawi, the
message of the
Quran is to say
or believe that
guidance that is
coming from the
Creator of the
universe is the
ultimate guidance, for
God has the
ultimate wisdom,
power, and
knowledge. And God
alone is the ultimate
authority and should be obeyed without qualification, obedience that is based not just
on fear or reward but on the love of God.

Holy Cities: Mecca or Makkah in Saudi Arabia

The city of
Mecca is fundamental to the Islamic religion,
as it
was designated by Prophet
Muhammad
himself. It is so important that
within its five
pillars of Islam the religion
specifies that
they take a pilgrimage, Hajj,
which is an obligation
once in a lifetime for
those who are
physically and
financially able to
perform it.
About two million people
go to Makkah
each year from every
corner of the
globe. Although Makkah is
always filled with
visitors, the annual Hajj is performed
in the twelfth month of the Islamic
calendar. This number of people is especially significant because only Muslims and
those who practice Islam are allowed into Mecca.

Religious Holidays
Al-Hijra: Islamic New Year
Al-Hijra, the Islamic New Year, is celebrated on the first day of Muharram, the month in which
Muhammad emigrated from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE (the Hijra).

Ramadan: Month of Fasting

Ramadan is not a holy day to Muslims but a holy month. It is the ninth month of the Muslim year, in which
"the Quran was sent down as a guidance for the people"

'Id Al-Fitr: Festival of Breaking the Fast

'Id Al-Fitr or Eid al-Fitr (Arabic for "Festival of the Breaking of the Fast") is one of Islam's two major
festivals. It marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, and is celebrated during the first
three days of the month of Shawwal.

Leadership Structure
Islam does not have an ordained clergy with authority over
rites and rituals. Any Muslim with sufficient knowledge
may lead prayers or perform rituals such as weddings or
funerals. In the early years of Islam, learned members of
the mosque led the prayers and gave the Friday sermon.
They were called imams literally, those who stand in
front.
