Introduction (UDL Multiple Means of Engagement):
Ask students to identify what they feel would be an exciting and
effective way to present a lesson on problem solving. Introduce the
lesson as a way to gain ideas from the students on how they would
gain the most from a lesson.

Body: (UDL - Multiple Means of Representation)

Identify that problem solving is a way to help students think about a
problem without their own preconceived ideas.
Define what a problem is: a situation that is unwanted or harmful if
not dealt with or overcome.
Define the scientific method: a method used to ask and answer
questions by making observations, doing experiments, and forming
conclusions
Define the Problem
Perform Research
Formulate Hypothesis
Test Hypothesis
Analyze Data
Form Conclusion
Explain the following process:
Students should first identify a problem. Utilize this problem as
a foundation to the lesson.

Identify why the problem exists. If the problem is too large, look
into small items which create this larger problem and use that
as the basis.

List all of the characteristics of why the problem exists. Define

the symptoms, people or things affected. Summarize what is

found.

Brainstorm solutions to the problem. Select one or more that

rectifies the most effects.

Describe what will be done to solve the problem utilizing the

methods chosen.

The students will be able to identify how problem solving allows them
to think for themselves. They get to see the multiple facets of an issue
and create strategies to overcome them.
Problem solving lessons gives the students a better feeling of
ownership in their learning. This is due to their own ideas being used
and proven or disproven.
Summary:
At the end of this lesson, the student will understand how a lesson
based on problem solving will be beneficial as well as provide their
own feedback on how the lesson will best suit their learning style.

Student Assessment (attach a copy of the assessment instrument that

will be used to assess students for this lesson): (UDL- Multiple Means
of Expression)
