Why is Alexander the Great Obessed with Achilles?

Alex didnt just listen to the ways of his tutor Aristotle, but to the ways of Achilles. Alex
admired the undefeated, fearless, cold hearted man who was son of a mortal and immortal. Alex
did many things Achilles did or wouldve done. Alex copied many ways of Achilles especially
in battles. Alex tied the body of an African who was fighting for the Persians, to his chariot and
drove it around the castle the African was protecting. Similar to Achilles who tied Hector's body
to his chariot and drove it around the Asian city of Troy. Both showing the acts of cruelty and
warriors, but this didnt attract the gift of honor and respect, it attracted fear and hatred. Alex also
set fire to the town of Thebes, as a punishment for revolt, similar to what Achilles did to Asian
city of Troy.

Alex wasnt always this way, but it all did start at an early age. When Alex tutor Aristotle
introduced him to Homers Iliad, then thats when Alex fell in love with Achilles. When in
training Alexs tutor would tell him to be undaunted, spectacular, and invincible like Achilles.
Aristotle seen the way Alex admired Achilles and used it as an inspiration to develope Alex to
that fearless, smart, and determined king/ warrior his dad wanted him to be. With due time
Aristotle plan worked creating Alex to be the big bad wolf his father wanted him to be.

Alex went from kingdom to kingdom fighting and dominating land. He was so known

for his victorious win, that his opponents didnt just get ready for war, they got ready for death.
All this from the acts and inspiration of Achilles, But it didnt stop there. Alex didnt just follow
Achilles in the war zone and king life but also in the love and romance life.

Alex highly admired Achilles love life also. He loved how Achilles and Patroclus were in
in deep romance. They both had this bonding love despite all of Achilles fights, cruelty, fame, he
didnt love anything more than Patroclus. Alex of course honored the love Achilles had for this
women, that he wanted to go and find his own Patroclus to love and certainly he did. Soon after
searching Alex finally found his Patroclus, her name was Hephaestion. Both in a everlasting love
until death did them apart. Alex and Achilles both faced the same problem in love, theyre lovers
passing before them. Both Alex and Achilles dealt with theyre lovers death badly, with
depression but soon gotten over it.

Alex lived his everyday life according to Achilles, but the question is why? Is it because
of his fearlessness, determination, cruelty, confidence, success, or because Alex seen himself in
Achilles. Alex realized that Achilles had the same childhood as him. Both fathers chose a special
person to educate and train them to be kings, conquerors, and warriors. At an early age both took
their fathers throne and surely did an outstanding job of ruling and conquering it. Also Achilles
was a son of an immortal and so was Alex.

He grew up knowing that this amazing guy had the same childhood as him, he felt he was
reading a story about himself.
Alex was so obsessed with Achilles because, he reminded him of his self.

Alex didnt feel like he had to be a reptical of his father but of Achilles because he seen himself
in Achilles. Achilles was everything Alex wanted to be and more, so thats who Alex set himself
to be. Alex seen all these similarities they had and common and felt himself to he a living
Achilles, to be Achilles, he was Achilles.
