HEXAGON
CONSTRUCTION GIVEN THE SIDE a

CONSTRUCTION KNOWN A RADIUS r

1. Draw a segment AB with the measure of the side a.

2. With the measure of this side a, draw two arcs from
their ends that have to be cut at the point O.
3. With center O and radius OB draw a circle.
4. The extensions of the sides AO and BO cut the
circle at D and E.
5. With center A and B and the measure of the side a,
draw two arcs cutting the circle at the vertices C
and F of the hexagon.

1. Draw a circle with the radius given and with center

the point O.
2. As the radius of the circle coincides with the measure
side of the regular hexagon, we draw arcs from the
ends A and B with the measurement of the radius
given cutting the circle and, like this, obtaining the
remaining vertices of the hexagon.
3. Finally, by joining the points in order we get the
regular hexagon inscribed in the circle.

hexagon of 75 mm side. An equilateral triangle is also included in the symbol.

The figure over shows a drawing of the Black and Decker logo,
which is based on a regular hexagon of 78 mm side. Draw this logo
to the sizes given.

Exercise 3. Worksheet number 24.

A drawing of the Nintendo Gamecube emblem is shown in the
figure over. It is based on a regular hexagon of side 80 mm.
Reproduce this drawing to the given dimensions.

Exercise 4. Worksheet number 25.

The IDA logo contains three equally spaced regular hexagons.
Each heagon is inscribed in a circle of radius 50 mm. Draw the
logo showing all construction lines.

Exercise 5. Worksheet number 26.
The outline of the Stop road sign is a regular octagon. A drawin of the road sign is shown in te figure below. The
inner octagon has a side of length 65 mm and the outer octagon is offset a distance of 10 mm. Make o copy of
this drawing to the sizes given. Include the letters, which are drawn on a grid of 5 mm squares, in your drawing.
Position the letters in the centre of the octagon.

Exercise 6. Worksheet number 27.

The MG Motors emblem is based on a regular octagon. Draw the emblem to the sizes given. Begin your work by
drawing the octagon of side 55 mm in which the letters M and G are inscribed. Start the drawing at point A.
