Teacher has the students come to
the front carpet to sit. Teacher has students give thumbs up if they have ever heard of the word theme. Teacher has created a small chart to help the students understand what theme means. Teacher asks students what inferred means. Teacher has students think about a story they have read that connects to some of the Theme ideas she lists off. Teacher uses a book they have all read as an example. The teacher also tells the students to think about the characters and their situations to help them figure out the Theme in the story. The teacher discusses with the students what possible Theme(s) could be in the book the PaperBag Princess, and then moves on to the Rainbow Fish. The teacher has the students turn and talk about the story Rainbow Fish and discuss possible Theme(s) in the story. Teacher is trying to get the students to use text information and inference because they have to use that for testing. The teacher uses another book that they read a while back. The teacher has the students turn and talk to their partners

Date: 2/29/16 Time: 8:30am-9:30am Thoughts, Questions, Connections to Methods Classes Learning to change the lesson plan at the last minute due to specials time changing. Learning to keep students on track and engaged throughout the lesson, especially with the lesson being changed and taught in a short time period. Using time wisely given the change in schedule and students not being able to practice the new lesson when its fresh on the mind.
