Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have a busy month coming up in the fourth grade.
Please see the Important Dates section on page two of
this newsletter for more information.
Our fourth grade classes will participate in a Nature
Week at CNC during the week of April 18th. More
information was sent home today.
The fourth grade window for taking the M-STEP
exam will be May 9 - May 27th. Please make every
effort to make sure your child is here for these dates.

Reading
We are wrapping up our lessons on point of view.
Next, we will begin a unit on the genre of historical
fiction. Students will participate in book clubs to read
chapter books from that genre.

Writing
We are continuing our informational writing unit. The
students have been utilizing the schools Chromebooks
to access Google docs through their school email
accounts. The students have written two chapters, and
they will soon write an introduction and a conclusion.
They have searched for and inserted facts and
photographs, as well as created a table of contents.
Later, they will include a glossary and a sources page.
If you have Internet at home, feel free to ask your
child to show you what he/she has completed.

Mathematics
We have been working on multiplicative word
problems. (Example: I have $3. You have five times that much.

April 5, 2016

How much do you have?) Weve also been measuring acute,

right, and obtuse angles with protractors.
The 100-problem multiplication tests continue. We will
now complete them in 3 minutes and 40 seconds. Our
final goal will be 100 problems in 3 minutes and 30
seconds. We are almost to our goal!

Math Lab
Our next math lab will focus upon measurement.
Students will review linear measurement in the metric
system (centimeters, meters, kilometers) as well as the U.S.
system (inches, feet, yards, miles). Also, they will review
measurement of mass in the metric system (grams,
kilograms) as well as the U.S. units (pounds, ounces).
They will also review metric units of capacity
(milliliters, liters) and U.S. units of capacity (cups, pints,
quarts, gallons).

Science
Our space unit will conclude with a test next week. A
study guide will be sent home later this week.

Social Studies
We have learned about the northeast region. Next,
well move down the coast to the southeast region.
While studying each region, students are comparing
the landforms, agriculture, and economic activities
with those in Michigan.

Spelling
Spelling lists, handwriting sheets, self-tests, games and
more can be found on www.spellingcity.com/
