When do you use Impact Calculus:
Only run impact calculus in the 1AC if youre confident you can
win the debate on that impact
What kinds of impact calculus do you want to do:

Rule number of 1 to win the debate is controlling the frame of

the debate:
Time Frame V. Magnitude? Education V. Fairness? Social
welfare V. Liberty? Reasonability V. Competing Interpretations?
How to compare the Impacts:
Time Frame: Urgency/Action/Probability/Sequencing
Magnitude: 1%*Infinity=100
Probability: Bayes Theorem: Probability*Magnitude.
Intrinsic=0 or 100%
We can make the choice to or not to cut down the rainforest
We cant make the choice to help the economy and count on it
working.
Reversibility: Whether you can go back/get it back.
Indigenous culture>Help the economy.
Certain things can be reversed and other things cant be
reversed.
Voluntary Risk: People choose to smoke, most people dont
choose to be in poverty.

Rebuttals
Map out rebuttal to resolve story that you are telling.
Close doors on things that change your position
Take out arguments that you think your opponents have a
chance of winning on.
Judge the debate!!
Think about why your opponent has won the debate (30
seconds)
Give credit
2NR is about answering the 2AR; think about where the 2AR is
going to be going and attack that. Destroy the aff world before
they create it.
Narrate the debate: tell the story of the debate.
Determine a lens at the top of the debate to analyze each
point in the round.
Assessing issues: 2AR needs to dedicated time to places the
2NR spends their time. The 2AR will have to resolve the 2NR
story about why they win the debate.
Go for the DA that turns the most of the case; doing this
means you dont have to do as much work on case defense.
