Please describe your job title and responsibilities.
I am the College Access Coordinator, and my responsibilities include:
a Building a college-going culture at HAIS
b Promote college readiness
c Assist with the college application process and scholarships
d Assist with the financial aid application process
e Serve as AVID Site Coordinator over the AVID program at HAIS
f Serve as FLO Coordinator for DiscoverU program at HAIS
g Serve as School Liaison for CollegeMAP program through Ernst & Young
h Other administrative duties
What is your educational background?
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Stephen F. Austin State
University (May 2008), Master of Education in Instructional Leadership from Sam
Houston State University (August 2010), Academic Advising Certificate from Sam
Houston State University (August 2010), and I am currently pursuing my Doctor of
Education degree in General Education Studies at Northcentral University.
Does your job require a college degree or special certification?
My job does require a college degree, and in some districts a Masters degree, along
with work experience.
4. How long have you been employed in this industry / position(s)?
I have been employed in this profession of College Access and College Readiness for
seven year now. I started in August 2008 through AmeriCorps VISTA and the College
for All Texans Foundation/Gates Grant from 2008-2010, then was an Admissions
Counselor at University of Houston Downtown from 2010-2012, Program Manager at
University of Houston from Jan. 2012-April 2012, Academic Advisor at University of
Houston from May 2012-August 2014, and been at HAIS in my current position since
August 2014.

1. How do you think Asia Society will benefit from becoming more
technologically advanced by funding 50 IPads to the Education and Outreach
Committee?
The technology can assist with exhibits and the educational programs. Students
and educators, as well as those visiting or donating to the Asia Society can chat
virtually with founders, members, and other stakeholders of the Asia Society.
2. Has any innovation or advancement similar to this one happened at Asia
Society? If so how did this affect the education sector of Asia Society? N/A

3. Do you feel that people would be more interested in having more school field
trips or family trips to Asia Society with the 50 IPads added to the education?
Yes, incorporating e-learning with school field trips to the Asia Society would
really benefit educators, the students, and the organization.
4. Will you directly or indirectly be affected from this advancement? Why or why
not?
I would be indirectly affected from this advancement because I do not
specialize in this area, however I would tell my students and parents about
Asia Society and what is offered.
5. Based on your knowledge of Asia Society how important is education?

6. Do you think this would help accomplish the global mission Asia Society has
to [enrich] and [engage] the vast diversity of Houston through innovative,
relevant programs (Written on the Asia Society Texas Center website)?
Absolutely! They are already enriching and engaging through innovative and
relevant programs because technology is innovative.
7. What funding methods have worked best in the previous years that could
apply to funding for 50 IPads? N/A
8. Lastly do you believe that having this technology source will improve
students academic outcomes? Absolutely. Students are so tech savvy now,
so there might as well be a learning/educational twist offered to students
through technology.
