LESSON PLAN
SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

LESSON ORGANISATION
Year Level: 2 and 3

Time: 1 hour

Date: week 6

Students Prior Knowledge:

Learning Area: Science

Strand/Topic from the Australian Curriculum

Students understand the concept of night and day, as

the moon being in the sky at night, and the sun being
in the sky when it is daytime.

Earths rotation on its axis causes regular changes,

including night and day (ACSSU048)
(modelling relative sizes of the Earth, sun and moon.

Students understand the sun gives life to the Earth,

and is our source of energy and light.
Students know the rules when using the ipads and can
use them effectively.

Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an action verb)
As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:
Recognise that the Sun is the source of life to the Earth.
Identify and show that the Planets rotate around the suns gravitational pull.

Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation:

Ipad available for each student

Youtube video- im so hot the sun song
Butchers paper
spiderscribe
Doodlebuddy on ipads

Provision for students at educational risk:

-

Set the locked application on the ipads so

students stay on task.
Students who finish early can model the size of
the sun compared to the other planets through
the use of playdough.

LESSON EVALUATION (to be completed AFTER the lesson)

Assessment of Lesson Objective and Suggestions for Improvement:

Teacher self-reflection and self-evaluation:

[OFFICIAL USE ONLY] Comments by classroom teacher, HOPP, supervisor:

class the sun song video)
40 mins

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key

Questions):
1. Students will research and discover on Britannica information
about the sun, its size, properties, rotation, gravitational pull etc.
2. Students will then be put into small groups (3 or 4) to
Brainstorm ideas on butchers paper.
3. Discussing the overall purpose of the sun.
4. from their brainstorms, students will then go on spider scribe
and create a brainstorm, adding pictures and videos, as
information sources for the class, summarising their ideas.
5. students will then go on doodlebuddy and create drawings of
the sun and planets in its rotational pull, showing their
understanding of the importance of the sun.

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

The class will review their brainstorm sources and doodlebuddy
creations.
Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)
Kids will be sat back on the mat, ready for recess.
