Read the article below and answer the questions:

From Holland's past to

present, Rotterdam is the
real deal

The Erasmus Bridge, also known as the Swan, is a Rotterdam landmark. (Holger Leue / Lonely Planet)

Peter Ferry Chicago Tribune

A Dutch friend said, "I heard a dozen languages in Amsterdam; one of them
was even Dutch."
The joke is that, like many antique European cities such as Brugge, Belgium,
and Venice, Italy, Amsterdam is overrun by tourists.
If you are young, hip and Dutch, the place to be is Rotterdam.

Bombed to bits by the Nazis and best known as northern Europe's major
seaport, Rotterdam has long been written off as a gritty industrial town. But
guidebook publisher Lonely Planet named it one of the world's top 10 cities
to visit in 2016 and with good reason. Rotterdam is a thriving, vital center
of Dutch life.
Promoted stories from CELEBChatter.com

After the war, it was a blank slate that became a showplace of stunning
modern architecture. It is one European city that has tall buildings, but it
also has fanciful, iconic structures like the Erasmus Bridge, a structure
known as the Swan that's been copied around the world, and Dutch
architect Piet Blom's innovative cube houses perched on hexagonal pylons.
Horseshoe-shaped Market Hall, built in 2014, is a relatively new addition to
the city, with 200-plus apartments forming a giant arch over an assortment
of vendors, shops and restaurants.
Rotterdam still has plenty of history, including the neighborhood of
Delfshaven, where Pilgrims yes, our Pilgrims set sail for
Massachusetts. You can visit the church where they worshipped. Also a
survivor of the war is the stately Town Hall. Just luck that the bombs
missed it, right? Not really. The Nazis reportedly spared it to preserve the
records of Dutch Jews.
The sprawling port of Rotterdam stretches more than 20 miles to the sea.
Dominated by a forest of giant cranes, it's a parking lot for huge tanker and
container ships from around the world and is remarkable for both its size
and muscle. Boat tours are offered year-round (spido.nl/en).
Amsterdam may be Holland's museum, The Hague its seat of government.
But Rotterdam is the Netherlands' real city.
