Educational Achievement Report Rationale

SPED 525
Formal Tests and Measurements for Students with Disabilities
The Woodcock Johnson Educational Achievement Test Report was
a major assignment from my SPED 525: Formal Tests and
Measurements for Students with Disabilities. This assignment allowed
me to demonstrate mastery of several Council for Exceptional Children
standards (CEC). The CEC standards demonstrated in this assignment
include standard 1: Learner Development and Individual Learning
Differences, standard 4: Assessment, and standard 6: Professional
Learning and Ethical Practice. For this assignment, the Woodcock
Johnson Educational Achievement Test was administered to the
specified student based on the reason for referral for special education
testing and services. The results of the assessment were described and
analyzed. Based on the analysis, recommendations were presented.
When I administered the Woodcock Johnson Educational
Achievement Test it demonstrated my mastery CEC standard 1:
Learning Development and Individual Learning Differences. The
knowledge I gained in this program helped me understand how
language, culture, and family background influences the learning of
individuals with exceptionalities. The use of assessment results, will
better equip me to individualize the instruction to the student. It is
through this process that I will select and use technically sound formal

and informal assessments that minimize biases. I will use my

knowledge of measurement principles and practices to interpret
assessment results and guide educational decisions for individuals with
exceptionalities. This will optimize learning for individuals with
exceptionalities.
The CEC Standard 4: Assessments) was also demonstrated with
the administration of the Woodcock Johnson Test. As stated in the CEC
standards, special educators must monitor the learning progress of
individuals with exceptionalities in both general and specialized
content and make instructional adjustments based on these ideas. I
will be able to do this with the results of this assessment. I could use
the results of this test along with relevant background information
about this student, and information gained from observations and data
to properly assess the student. This assignment also exposed me to
terminology, legal policies and ethical principles regarding the
assessment of individuals.
The last standard that showed my mastery was CEC standard 6:
Professional Learning and Ethical Practice. While gathering information
on the specified student through file reviews and contact with the
students family, it was evident that close attention must be paid to
legal matters (permission, timelines, and confidentiality). This
assessment made me reach out to my colleagues for assistance. This
testing was something that I never experienced in my many years of

being in the classroom. I reached out for help and as a result, several
more experienced teachers came to help me. This relates to the
standard because the CEC standard states that professionals will
provide guidance and direction to Para educators, tutors, and
volunteers. I now consider myself to be a lifelong learner because I
must continue to gain knowledge about teacher to be an effective, and
up-to-date educator.
The knowledge, skills, and disposition I learned while completing
the Woodcock Johnson Educational Achievement Test has made a
positive impact on student learning. The administration of this test has
helped me better plan for the students that I work with on a daily
basis. As a result of this assignment, I learned to administer the
Woodcock Johnson Educational Test, and have successfully tested two
of my students.
