Vocabulary: insulting, admire, doubtful, uncooperative, ghastly
Anticipatory Set: Teacher will ask the students to make a prediction about what might
happen in the story Julius the Baby of the World.
Teacher Actions:
1. Teacher will gather students on the story-time rug.
2. Teacher will show the students the cover of the book Julius the Baby of the World and
ask them what they think is happening in the picture or what the story might be about.
3. Teacher will read Julius the Baby of the World.
4. Teacher will explain to the students the task they will be doing in their table groups.
Teacher will model the task for them.
5. Teacher will make the expectations clear (i.e. each student must use a different color
marker to write with, each student must participate).
6. Teacher will walk around to monitor and offer assistance to the students while they
work in their table groups.
7. Teacher will re-read the objective and ask the class if they feel like they've met the
objective.
Student Actions:
1. Students will listen to the story Julius the Baby of the World.
2. Students will listen as the teacher explains and models the task.
3. Students will work in their table groups to complete the posters.
4. The table groups will present their posters to the class.
Modifications (corresponding to student actions):
1. Some students might need to be provided with one or two individual pages of the story
(as opposed to the whole story). This will decrease the likelihood of the students
becoming overwhelmed or distracted.

2. Students who are at a lower reading level might need assistance with re-reading parts
of the story. Students will be re-reading the story so that they can go back and find
information to put on their posters.
Closure: Table groups will present their posters to the class. The teacher will then re-read
the objective and ask the class if they feel like they've met the objective.
Assessment (formative and/or summative): Students will be assessed on the quality of the
ideas portrayed in the posters.
