Classroom Management

Plan and Script

By Garrett H. Vestal
EDUC 330
11/18/15

Second Grade
I

am making this plan for a

second grade class.

Classroom Management
Plan
Here

begins my classroom
management plan.

Beliefs about classroom

environment
I

believe that a class needs to

flow, above all.
A class needs to be managed
well by the teacher in order to
keep the flow going.
It is the teachers responsibility
to see that the students are on
task and engaged in learning.

Beliefs about classroom

environment cont.
Discipline

is a hard thing for a

teacher to do now-a-days.
It is not about physical discipline
but discipline as the word is used
and meant in martial arts or the
military.
Students must be trained to
adhere and conform to the
procedures of the classroom and
school.

Philosophy of education
Not

many of you should become

teachers, my brothers, for you
know that we who teach will be
judged with greater strictness.
For we stumble in many ways.
And if anyone does not stumble
in what he says, he is a perfect
man, able also to bridle his whole
body.
- James 3:1-2

Philosophy of education
cont.
I want my students to feel
comfortable and like a team.
2. As an educator I will totally and
utterly be devoted to my
students.
3. I want my students to be
motivated to come to school,
and engaged when at school.
1.

Philosophy of education
cont..
Guide

them as they grow, show

them in every possible way they
are cared for, and make special
moments for them that will add
magic to their lives, motivate
them to make a difference in the
lives of others, and, most
important, teach them to love
life.

Support from
theories/researchers
Research

says that by keeping

my students motivated and
engaged I eliminate most
discipline problems before they
start.

Research

says that when

students are comfortable in their
classrooms and with their teacher
they learn more effectively.

Letter of introduction to students

Howdy

students, I am Mr. Vestal.

Our room number is #727.
We are the second grade class of
Rainelle Elementary school.
I welcome you to our second
grade class. I am excited to have
you in class. I hope you are
excited to be in the second
grade. This year we will be
learning about space, trains,

Letter of introduction to
parents
Greetings

parents, I am Mr.
Garrett Hunter Vestal. I
graduated from Bluefield State
College in 2016 with a Bachelors
degree in K-6 education. This is
my first year as a teacher at
Rainelle Elementary but I have
been in and out of the school by
studying under the great
teachers here for the past four
years for college assignments

Letter of introduction to parents

cont.
I

have a ton of exciting plans for

our class this year. Things like
experiments, giving students
opportunities to read in class,
having guest readers,
collaborative work between our
class and the other second grade
class with Mr. Stroud, and a
Cavalier corner for my students
interested in Greenbrier West
athletics.

Letter of introduction to parents

cont..
My

discipline plan is simple. I

plan on engaging and motivating
the students so to eliminate
future disciple problems before
they arise. Also by being a
consistent teacher with
reinforcing correct procedures,
attitudes, and rules I will take
care of discipline.

Important

dates and reminders:

August 15 at 5pm is open house.
Where I get to meet you and your
children before school starts. It is
imperative that I get to meet and
know you before school starts.
August 29 is the first day of school.
Make sure your child is at school the
first week, this is when procedures
and rules are taught and reinforced.

Arrival procedure
When

students arrive in our room

from breakfast they put their
book bags in their lockers, place
their folder in the teachers
mailbox, move their name to hot
or cold lunch on the smartboard,
and sit in their seats and do the
daily math warm-up.

Tardy procedure
When

students arrive tardy they

do about the same as if they
arrived on time. They put their
book bag in their locker and place
their folder in the teachers
mailbox. They then come to the
teacher for further instruction.

Absence procedure
Parents

or guardians of students
are responsible to call the school
secretary and arrange to pick up
students work after the end of
the day or after the teachers
planning period.

Homework procedure
If

their is homework students are

to put their homework in the
homework mailbox under the
teachers mailbox.

Procedure for getting students

attention
I

will either give them an eye to

eye look and motion them to
proceed or not to proceed, call
their name out, or tap on their
should, all depending on the
circumstances.

Procedure for visitor in the room

When

a visitor comes into our

room we are to stand out of
respect for our authority or
elders.
Students are to hold their
questions while I am talking with
visitor or continue working at
level 2 noise.

Procedure for getting teachers

attention
Students

will raise there hand quietly

until called on or motioned by teacher.
If students notices that the teacher is
paying attention elsewhere besides the
student then the student may call out
verbally Mr. Vestal, and wait for
acknowledgement from the teacher.
If situation is important or is an
emergency student may directly
approach me and communicate the
matter with me before proceeding further.

Restroom procedures
Students

use the restroom on our

scheduled restroom breaks. If it is an
emergency they can approach the
teacher and communicate the matter
before proceeding.
While in the hall students line up behind
a designated spot in gender specific
lines and go to the restroom three at a
time.
Last student out checks bathroom for
anything out of place and reports to the
teacher their findings.

Lining up procedure
Students

will wait to be told to

line up.
Students will line up in gender
specific lines and will go when
told depending on if it is girls or
boys week to lead the line.

Hallway procedures
While

in the hallway we are an

example and a model for all other
classes to follow and we are at a
level of 1 noise unless otherwise
specified by a teacher, principle,
or authority figure.

Dismissal procedure
Students

are to immediately stop what

they are doing or working on when they
are told to go get their backpacks and
pack up. They are to get their folders from
their mailboxes and take them home every
night. They are to write the homework
down in their agenda and take it home
every night.
Once packed their book bags will be on the
back of their chairs and they will sit at
their desk at a level of 1 noise until further
instructions.

Bullying procedures for student

as victim and bystander
When

a student is bullied they

are to first tell them bully nicely
to stop what they are doing or
saying, second move away from
the bully if possible, third walk up
and tell authority figure.
When a student witnesses
bullying they are immediately tell
an authority figure.

Classroom rules/discipline
1.

Students are to always treat

others as they would want to be
treated.
2. Students are to think before
making decisions.
3. Students are to put others
needs in front of their own.

Classroom rules/discipline
cont.
Reward

system is a token
system. The students receive five
tokens in the morning of every
day. Depending on behavior, at
the teachers discretion, they
keep them until Friday when they
get in the treasure box.

Classroom rules/discipline
cont..
Consequences

in class are the

school wide disciple and
consequence system of three
strikes, youre out. Each student
starts the day with three
baseballs, and depending on
students behavior, will get them
taken away if problems arise, or
student are consistently caught
disobeying an authority figure.
This is also an accountability

labeled & rationale for doing so

Rationale for doing so

This

is a picture of my second
grade classroom during the early
spring.
Students storage is left of the
door for easy entering ad exiting
room access.
Student files are in the back of
the room so if a student needs to
get up during class to access it
they do not disturb the whole

Rationale for doing so

cont.
Biggest

library is in the back of

the room for the same reason as
the student files.
Computers are in front of the
window so students can look out
the window if their eyes start to
hurt while on the computer.
Smallest library has chapter
books and harder to read books.
This library is accessed at

Rationale for doing so

cont..
Teachers

desk is by the door so if

an intruder would come by or into
the room they would have to get
through me in order to get to my
students.
Manipulatives are located behind
the teachers desk so to have fast
access during planning of lessons
and demonstration and use with
small/one-on-one group table.

Rationale for doing so

cont
Small/one-on-one

group table
located behind teachers desk so
to help students that need
Approaching Level instruction or
special needs help.
Smart table and two center desks
are placed in the back and by
themselves and can be moved if
need be.

Seating arrangement
method
Students

desks are arranged for

a number of reasons: this student
works best with this student, this
student needs to be separated
from this student, this student is
in front so to be engaged, this
student is close to teachers desk
to stay out of trouble.

First Day Script

Here

begins my first day script.

will draw, color, and cut

out name tags that look like
space ships.

students to send out.
Make sure to get students log-in
information for computer use.

Details on how the teacher will

greet students
The

teacher will great students at

the door with a smile, high five,
and a sticker.

Description of how procedures

will be taught.
Explain.

I will explain to students as the

first days go by how they are to proceed
with everything listed in the Classroom
Management Plan.
Rehearse. I will rehearse it at least three
times a day with my students as we
were literally doing the action or
procedure.
Reinforce. I will have students do the
procedure by themselves and also tell
me what the procedure is while doing it.

Description of how rules are selected/presented

to students and how they will be reinforced.

My

class rules have been

selected from what I have seen
that has worked as a college
student in successful schools.
New rules will be presented to
students in the morning meeting
with discussion about the rules.
They will be reinforced by review
of them daily until rule is
remembered and learned.
