Student Performance / Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes
Teaching Methods
A variety of teaching methods may be employed to facilitate the goals of this course to include:
reading assignments; lectures; guest presentations; learning activities; case studies; role plays;
course project/presentation; and written exams. The lecture portion of this course is hybrid in
nature. The student will have access to learning content in the learning management system for
LSC-Kingwood online supported and as such all lectures will be available for download prior to
class. You, the student, are expected to log in on a daily basis for course announcements,
assignments and/or communications about the course. You will need to bring your laptop or
electronic device to enable testing in the classroom. The following media may be used to
support classroom activities: text; professional journal articles; PowerPoint presentations;
videotapes; CD ROMs; internet use; and others as indicated.
Learning Modules by topic:
Upon completion of the hybrid lecture components of this course, the student will demonstrate
competence in the following objectives with a minimum of 75% accuracy to complete this
course:
Each learning module will be evaluated at its conclusion with a summative evaluation
assessment to determine competence in the content for each module.
Equal Opportunity Statement:
Tropic State University (TSU) is committed to the principle of equal opportunity in education and
employments. TWU does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, age, sexual

orientation, religion, ethnic or national origin, disability, veterans status, nationality or ethnicity in
its programs and activities. College Services is designated as the TSU Equal Opportunity
Officer and title IX Coordinator. All inquiries concerning TSU policies, compliance with
applicable laws, statutes, and regulations (such as Title VI, Title IX, and Section 504), and
complaints may be directed to Norman Mathers at 832-813-5520. Inquiries about the laws and
compliance may also be directed to Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Education. For
further information, visit http://www.ed.gov for the address and phone number of the office that
serves your area, or call 1-800-421-3481.
Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Statement:
Tropic State University (TSU) system is dedicated to providing the least restrictive learning
environment for all students. TSU promotes equity in academic access through the
implementation of reasonable accommodations as required by the Vocational Rehabilitation Act
of 1973, Title V, Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), which will
enable students with disabilities to participate in and benefit from all post-secondary educational

Attendance Policy
Attendance is required for satisfactory achievement. It is the responsibility of the student to
attend class on a daily basis in the hybrid sense of the course. The instructor expects each
student to login in on a daily basis and respond to new content such as newly uploaded
material, new discussion posts, etc. The student is responsible for logging in daily. If the
registration log shows no login attempt for the day, a zero attendance will be recorded for the
day. The student may have no more than 1 absence in this course without affecting the final
grade of the course. Beginning with the 2nd absence, 5 points will be deducted from the final
grade for each absence thereafter. Due to the tremendous amount of information contained in
this course, you the student are expected to login daily and come to class prepared, to
participate in discussion and activities. To gain an understanding of how theory translates into
the information technology world, students will need a baseline knowledge obtained through
reading assignments as well as course content in courses taken up to this point. A student can
rightfully infer the importance of logging in daily and responding to new content and discussions.
The learning and growth within the course is directly proportional to the amount of time invested
by the student to learn and grow.
Students with Disabilities
Any student who, because of a disabling condition, may require some special arrangements in
order to meet course requirements should contact the course director as soon as possible.

The following grade scale applies throughout this course:

A= 93 - 100%
B= 83 - 92%
C=75 - 82%
F= Below 75%
Note: A grade of D is not possible in this course.

CIED Legal Course content

CIED 5367 - Legal is considered a hybrid supported class. All classroom lecture materials will
be available from the learning management system which is Tropic State University web based
learning software. The student needs to be aware that this course will require between 4 to 6
hours daily using the tools provided through D2L. A Student should schedule specific time(s)
every day to work exclusively on THIS course just as you would schedule time to attend a faceto-face course or go to work. Stick to the scheduled time. Access to the online course can be
achieved by logging into www.TSU.edu and then clicking onto the myTSU icon on the
homepage. Login to the network is the same that is used to check the student email accounts
and viewing of grades. If the student is a first time user within the D2L system, the student will
be guided through an online orientation. It is highly recommended that the student take the time
necessary to complete and read thoroughly through the orientation in order to navigate correctly
through the system for success. Expectation of the Student is to complete all of the quizzes on
campus at the designated time established by Course Director(s). Each Student is to come to
class prepared to review the content material for that days lecture. Clarification will be achieved
through active participation in the classroom setting if necessary. At this time, any questions that
the student may have will be addressed for complete learning.
Access: Access to this course is available 24/7, but certain materials will appear and disappear
according to the syllabus calendar.
Attendance: Regular and timely participation is expected (log in DAILY). If you are having
difficulties that cause you to not log in or submit work, please communicate with course
director(s) immediately. The course will be accessed by faculty once in the morning and
once in the evening otherwise.
Compatibility: The D2L Learning Management System is compatible with MANY internet
browsers. The best browser to use is GOOGLE CHROME. If you are a MAC USER, please DO
NOT use the default browser (Safari) there are compatibility issues. Google Chrome is a free
download at https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/

Technical Support: Course Directors can help with content, but not computers. All issues
concerning the hardware/software needed to access the course and accounts/ID for taking the
course should be directed to the 24/7 helpdesk: phone (1-866-614-5014), e-mail
(online@lonestar.edu), or online (http://www.lonestar.edu/lsc-online-student-support-htm).
Five Steps to SUCCESS:
1. Log in EVERY DAY important announcements and e-mails are sent constantly!
2. Read EVERYTHING! Always check the announcements, e-mail and any lesson
updates.
3. Follow the READINGS AND SUPPORT MATERIALS DAILY: Read everything and
complete the Daily Quiz.
4. ASK QUESTIONS: if you do not know, send an e-mail or make a list to be reviewed the
next day for clarity.
5. SCHEDULE YOUR WORK! Dont wait until the last minute to begin the work!!!
Computer Virus Protection:
Computer viruses are, unfortunately, a fact of life. Using external drives, etc. on more than one
computer creates the possibility of infecting computers with a virus. This exposes computers to
potentially damaging viruses. The college has aggressive anti-virus procedures in place to
protect its computers, but cannot guarantee that a virus might not temporarily infect one of its
machines. It is your responsibility to protect all computers under your control and ensure that
each external drive that is used, whenever or wherever you use it, has been scanned with antivirus software. Since new viruses arise continually, your anti-virus software must be kept
current. Since no anti-virus software will find every virus, keeping copies of data (backups) is
extremely important.
Make-up Policy
If a student is absent on the day when a quiz is given a grade of zero is recorded and no
makeup exam will be allowed.
If a student is absent on the day a competency is given a grade of zero will be recorded.
Successfully completing the skill for the competency is necessary to complete all of the course
competencies to move to the next level in the curriculum. The competency will be retested until
a successful completion occurs. The grade of zero will still stand.
If a competency is not completed by semesters end, then the course is considered incomplete.
This will result in a failure of the course. This course is a pre-requisite for the following
semesters.
Academic Integrity
The Lone Star College System upholds the core values of learning: honesty, respect, fairness
and accountability. The system promotes the importance of personal and academic honesty.
The system embraces the belief that all learners students, faculty, staff and administrators
will act with integrity and honesty and must produce their own work and give appropriate credit
to the work of others. Fabrication of sources, cheating, or unauthorized collaboration is not
permitted on any work submitted within the system.

The consequences for academic dishonesty are determined by the professor, or the professor
and academic dean, or the professor and chief student services officer and can include but are
not limited to:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Having additional class requirements imposed,

Receiving a grade of zero or F for an exam or assignment,
Receiving a grade of F for the course,
Being withdrawn from the course of program,
Being expelled from the college system.

Professors should clearly explain how the students actions violated the academic integrity
policy, how a grade was calculated, and the actions taken.
Academic Grievances
Lone Star College has structured academic grievances procedures that must be followed: Refer
to the College Catalog.
Electronic and Recording Devices
All electronic devices such as cell phones or beepers/pagers are prohibited in this course. Any
recording devices will be allowed upon the consent/permission of the Course Director.
Six Drop Rule
Students who enrolled in Texas public institutions of higher education as first-time college
students during the Fall 2007 term or later are subject to section 51.907 of the Texas Education
Code, which states that an institution of higher education may not permit a student to drop
(withdraw with a grade of W) from more than six courses. This six-course limit includes
courses that a transfer student has previously dropped at other Texas public institutions of
higher education if they fall under the law.
Students should be sure they fully understand this drop limit before they drop a course. Please
visit the admission office or counseling/advising center for additional information and assistance.
Emergency Procedures
Lone Star College System (LSCS) is committed to maintaining the safety of the students,
faculty, staff, and guests while visiting any of our campuses. See http://www.lonestar.edu/oem
