HTSB Standard 6: Assessment

Candidate understands and uses multiple methods of assessment
to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner
progress, and to guide the teacher and learners decision-making.
Part I: Describe a teaching artifact that represents the overall HTSB standard
Teaching Artifact: EngradePro Electronic Gradebook
Course: ED295A
Teaching Artifact Description: Use EngradePro to create an electronic record of student
progress/achievement.

Teaching Artifact Results: I include all assignments in the online system. Parents and students have
access to the system anywhere they have an internet connection, as do I. This makes using the system
easy for all involved. I am able to communicate to students and parents within the system. Students are
able to track their own progress. Assignments explanations, rubrics and due dates are all transparent to
everyone. I am able to hold students accountable for determining their progress. Grades are up to date by
the end of each week for any work submitted.

Part II: Connect teaching artifact to a sub-standard and assess your proficiency

6.5 Candidate Creates Digital Gradebook to Track Learner

Progress
Candidate makes a digital and/or other record of learner
performance so that s/he can monitor each learners progress.
Connect the teaching artifact/assignment with standard language: I created an EngradePro
account where I record all learner performance. Students and parents are able to access the
information from anywhere they have an internet connection. I can monitor progress and make
adjustments as needed.
Self-Assessment:
I meet the highest level of always on this practice, as I keep my gradebook updated at all
times. At Kauai High School we are given a small amount of time on Fridays to make sure our
Engrade is completely up to date.
Evidence that supports self-assessment (include student samples/data where appropriate)
Example of artifact: www.engradepro.com (I am not able to post screenshots due to
FERPA).

Part III: Improve your proficiency for the HTSB standard

Creates Digital Gradebook to Track Learner Progress

Does Candidate make digital and/or other records of learner performance so
that s/he can monitor each learners progress?

Research Findings:
Implementation of findings (please describe or demonstrate a specific example):

According to my college supervisor, I am meeting the standard. Students are able to see their
progress any time they want to.
One area I could improve on would be to have to the whole terms assignments listed in the
gradebook in advance so students can see what is ahead for them to do.

Another area I could improve would be to incorporate more assessments directly into the
EngradePro system, according to Dr. Sandi Combs, teacher at Kapaa High School. She has
students take their tests right in the system. They have immediate access to feedback on how they
did and do not have to wait for grading. The only thing holding me back from doing this is not
having easy access to a cart of computer for students. I had tried this earlier in the year, but access
was very frustrating for students. As more computer carts become available, this is a viable plan.
