I love this website! This site gives teachers 12 creative and subtle ways to incorporate
Art into everyday lessons. My favorite method is number four: create a memory dance.
When students are learning something that has a lot of content, they are able to make
up a dance to remember it. It also gets the students to burn some energy and possibly
become more enthused about the topic that theyre covering. This method could be
used when learning about vocabulary, grammar rules or other major concepts that could
be thought of as confusing to students. I did something similar in highschool with the
bone structure in the human body, believe it or not I still remember most of the dance
and that was four years ago!

into their classrooms. The lesson that I chose to focus on is one that involves
movement, music and writing. This lesson is a great way for the students to be able to

allows comprehension of literary text using reading, comprehending, interpreting and
analyzing. It also helps students learn about bullying. Students act out what they
learned from the story such as bullying that was displayed and anti-bullying strategies
that were used.

was in fifth grade. Students are expected to research, write about and eventually
become a historical figure. By making costumes and designing sets, students are
creating visual art using multiple different mediums. Role-playing by performing
speeches as their character encourages the dramatic arts and allows students to fully
understand and engage the content.

This site has plenty of art integration ideas for use across the curriculum but I like this
one because of the movement and thought processes involved. The lesson uses a
technique called tableau which is the creation of scenic still pictures with your body.
This term was new to me so I did a little research to gain better understanding. I found a
video that shows this technique being demonstrated within the classroom. I think the
whole video is useful but if you want to see specifically the modeling of tableau, skip to

students have to think about how the scenery might look, how characters might feel,
etc. They may even play inanimate objects. There is a lot of thought and imagination
that comes into play with this lesson and with this technique.

The Coat of Arms lesson is one where the students learn about knighthood and how like
was as a knight. This lesson is a few days long and includes background knowledges
and lots of discussion, but eventually the students will create their own visual arts piece

5th grade students and it allows students to research about world explorers. They will

of the explorers route. This lesson is very engaging, it is split into five groups: engage,

important. I agree with everything that was said in the video. When art is integrated in
the classroom, students will learn and remember better and it will last for years to come.
Students mental, physical and emotional abilities also get better when art is integrated
in their classroom. Everyone has to be an advocate for the arts, not just the teachers
and school staff. We need to get parents, family members and especially political
leaders on board. Art Education is just as important as Math and Science and Art can be
used to teach the other subjects as well. Many people dont realize how important art is
until they learn more about it. I know because I use to be in the same boat until I started
to learn more about it. I always thought that you had to be artistic, musically inclined or
great at acting to teach art education, but its not true. Anyone can do it. I love how she
said that every student learns differently and most of the time, a student will remember
something easier when the student is engaged. I also liked how she said that art
education helps activate your prior knowledge, which is completely true.

Planets and Painting
This has many different concepts of the arts in one project. Students will be able to paint
the planets and given a set of colors to create these planets. You could also let the
students paint on the description of the planets, using their own imagination and after
show them an actual picture of it. They also get to move due to revolution and rotation.

Finally, they create realistic backgrounds out of box lids or 2-liter bottles with the bottom
removed. We display the insects in the hallway with insect trivia.

The background information is a Smithsonian article about the science behind fireworks.
Students discuss the chemical reaction needed to ignite fireworks and create the
different colors. Then, students paint firework designs on black construction paper with
watercolor paints. Next, add salt to the paper and watch the reaction. Students can write
about what they observed when they added salt.

Scholastic always has great articles, even how to integrate art and science! This site
offers 5 ideas on integrating science and art. The one that interested me the most was
Pendulum Painting. This experiment uses paint and a pendulum to create a cool
design on paper. This is great for students to understand pendulums. Students learn
about the effect of gravity, the movement of a pendulum, and how different forces act.

This lesson plan may not be as useful to most of us as elementary educators but it was
the first thing I thought of when combining art and math. This visual arts lesson is mainly
for 9-12 graders (14 years and up) but could definitely be used for younger advanced
learners. The Fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio are connected to aesthetics and
students can easily apply connections to this lesson with their worlds outside of the
classroom.

This lesson plan uses word painting as an arts integration technique to help students
understand mathematical concepts (exponents, base numbers, and squares). Word
painting uses music writing to depict the meaning of other words and concepts. It is
extremely interesting!

You can have the students make either a family or personal totem; while going over a
Native American unit.Through the unit you can teach them what certain animals and
symbols meant on the totem, so they can understand the cultural significance. You can
have them do this with modeling clay or you could have them draw the totem. I have
done a similar lesson in my arts class and it was a lot of fun to learn about the Native
culture and symbolism and then create my personal totem.

activities. This was a concern of mine because as students get in the upper elementary
grades, they become less willing to engage in play. I have noticed that when I do begin
a game with my class, a good portion of my students prefer to watch instead of
participate. This website should help. They include tips that are helpful and not always
as obvious such as Model a [new] drama technique with a scene from a familiar story
or Pre-determine the dramas end and of course they tell you how to do it. A bonus is

This site has several different math lessons that integrate art. Some examples it has
are: making snowflakes and studying symmetry, cutting geometric shapes to create a
